The Manchester Shop - Full Time Retail Assistant Temporary Contract

The Manchester Shop is the #1 place for all things Manchester! We sell a wide range of products including clothing, homeware, giftware and souvenirs. It's a very busy shop and we are looking for someone with retail experience to join our team from September to mid-Jan to help during the Xmas period.

The Job:

Providing excellent customer service to everyone who comes in the shop Serving customers using Epos tills Keeping the shop exceptionally clean Maintaining product displays Stocktaking Full training will be given Processing stock using Epos system

The Person:

Minimum of 2 years' retail experience in a similar environment (essential) Experience of using an epos system for stock control / stocktaking (beneficial but not essential) Excellent timekeeper Able to be on your feet for an 8 hour shift Enthusiastic, friendly and confident to talk to customers and colleagues Ability to follow instructions Happy to carry out cleaning duties Knowledge of Manchester would be beneficial (but not essential) Committed to working over the festive period. The shop will be closed Xmas & Boxing Day and New Year's Day.

The Terms:

The hours are Monday to Thursday 10am to 6pm and Sunday 11am to 5pm (non-negotiable) Each shift includes a 30 minute unpaid break Total working hours = 35.5 Weekday shifts are paid at standard hourly rate and Sunday shifts are paid at overtime rate which is standard rate + 25% Minimum wage for your age There will potentially be overtime hours available which would be paid at the overtime rate. This is optional and not guaranteed This is a temporary position between Monday 1st September 2025 to Sunday 18th January 2026 28 days' holiday pro rata. During the festive period we are not always able to accept holiday requests. Any holiday entitlement owing will be paid at the end of the contract. 3 days' holiday will be used to cover festive bank holidays when the shop is closed. Full time hours guaranteed until 18th Jan 2026 and will then be reviewed. We are hoping to be able to make the position permanent but this is not guaranteed.
