Full Stack Nhs Software Developer

Manchester, ENG, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

Position Overview

We are looking for a Full-Stack Software Developer with hands-on experience building and integrating applications within the NHS ecosystem. In this role, you will design and deliver secure, scalable, and interoperable solutions that enhance primary care workflows while ensuring full compliance with NHS safety and data standards.

You'll work across the full stack -- from cloud-hosted APIs and databases to user-friendly dashboards for healthcare staff -- with a strong emphasis on interoperability with NHS systems such as EMIS, SystmOne, AccuRx, Surgery Connect, NHS Spine, FHIR, and HL7.

Our Culture

Culture is at the heart of everything we do. We believe in accountability, respect, and ownership, and we expect every team member to live by our "Above the Line" principles:

Accountability

- See it, own it, solve it, do it.

Respect

- Treat others and their perspectives with respect.

Action

- Act with urgency and always ask, "What else can I do?"*

Feedback

- Seek coaching and pursue continuous improvement.

Ownership

- Take pride in your work and reject mediocrity.

Empathy

- Show care and understanding toward others.

What You'll Do

Design, build, and deploy full-stack features (frontend + backend) for NHS-facing applications. Develop secure interoperability layers for NHS clinical systems and APIs. Create real-time dashboards and workflow tools for healthcare staff. Architect and optimise cloud-hosted services with high reliability and resilience. Ensure compliance with NHS standards (DTAC, DSPT, Cyber Essentials, IG Toolkit). Collaborate with clinicians, practice managers, and technical teams to co-design solutions. Apply DevOps practices to support continuous delivery, monitoring, and automation. Document architecture, workflows, and compliance notes for audit and certification.

Key Requirements

Proven experience as a Full-Stack Developer (React, Node.js, Python, or Java). Direct experience with NHS applications, APIs, or integrations (e.g., EMIS Partner API, SystmOne, NHS Spine, FHIR, HL7). Strong knowledge of NHS compliance frameworks (DTAC, DSPT, IG Toolkit, Cyber Essentials). Practical cloud expertise (AWS preferred: Lambda, ECS/EKS, RDS, S3) (desirable)*.
Experience integrating machine learning models (desirable)*.
DevOps skills with Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, GitHub Actions (or similar CI/CD tools) (desirable)*.
Strong communication and documentation skills, with a focus on safe, user-centred delivery.
