The Function Architect and Software Platform role is responsible for leading the definition, integration, and management of software and system functions across R&D activities. This includes creating and maintaining the function list for vehicle projects, ensuring alignment between business requirements and technical delivery, and supporting Client's strategic function integration within Group companies.
This position requires deep expertise in system and software architecture for physical products (not just IT systems), with a focus on early lifecycle development, requirements definition, and modelling.
Key Responsibilities:
Act as the subject matter expert for function architecture across R&D.
Lead the function list development and ensure its accuracy and alignment with project goals (typically 600+ functions).
Facilitate cross-functional collaboration to define, validate, and manage function requirements.
Liaise with Client Group company platform developers to ensure functional requirements are included in shared architecture.
Manage permanent and contract resources maintaining the function list.
Resolve functional architecture issues both internally and with VW Group partners.
Provide strategic input to ensure alignment of function architecture with Bentley's business and technical goals.
Use tools like Cameo, AVW, DOORS, CodeBeamer, Jira, and MatLab/Stateflow for modelling, requirements capture, and lifecycle management.
Support the collection and reporting of project KPIs, including input to project gateways.
Drive improvements in function development processes and tooling.
Key Skills & Experience:
Proven experience in functional/software architecture for physical products (ideally in automotive or complex systems).
Strong knowledge of system engineering principles, software lifecycle, and function-oriented development.
Modelling and requirements management using tools such as UML, SysML, DOORS, Cameo, and AVW.
Experience with electrical systems and networks (CAN, CAN FD, FlexRay, MOST, LIN).
Experience with software tools like CodeBeamer, Jira, MatLab, Autocode, and Stateflow.
Ability to manage cross-functional teams and influence stakeholders at all levels.
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
Experience leading architecture activities in collaborative platform environments.
Qualifications:
Essential:
Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a similar field.
Desirable:
Chartered Engineer or membership in a relevant professional institution.
German language skills (advantageous ).
