Functional Skills Tutor (Maths & English)

32,000 - 35,000 DOE

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated Functional Skills Tutor to deliver high-quality teaching in Maths and English (Level 1 & 2) to Army apprentices based onsite at MoD Lyneham. You will play a key role in supporting learners to achieve their apprenticeship Functional Skills requirements, delivering face-to-face sessions, coaching individuals, and preparing them for assessments.



This role is ideal for a tutor with strong classroom delivery experience, excellent organisational skills, and a passion for supporting learners who are developing both professionally and academically.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver engaging, face-to-face Functional Skills sessions in English and Maths (Level 1 & 2). Support and coach apprentices to achieve Functional Skills within required timeframes. Adapt teaching to meet diverse learning needs, including learners with SPLDs or neurodiverse requirements. Prepare learners for assessments and provide clear, constructive feedback. Plan and deliver high-quality lessons, resources, and learner documentation. Work collaboratively with internal teams and follow safeguarding and quality procedures.

Essential Experience & Skills

Experience delivering Functional Skills English and Maths. Strong understanding of safeguarding and learner welfare. Excellent organisational, planning, and communication skills. Ability to adapt teaching methods and motivate learners.

Qualifications

Recognised teaching/training qualification (e.g., CertEd, AET, DET or equivalent). GCSE (or equivalent) in Maths and English at Grade C / 4-9 or above.

Additional Requirements

Able to pass relevant security checks for working on a military site (e.g., DBS/BPSS). * Commitment to ongoing professional development.
