Job Description

Are you passionate about supporting learners who are new to the UK, new to the Army, and new to English?

We're looking for a committed and culturally sensitive Functional Skills Tutor to deliver English and Cultural Awareness training to Nepalese Gurkha trainees. This unique role supports young adults at a pivotal point in their military careers, helping them build the language, confidence, and cultural understanding they need to succeed.

You'll deliver Functional Skills English up to Entry Level 3/Level 1 and deliver contextualised cultural education, while recognising and respecting the heritage, identity, and traditions of Gurkha recruits.

Key responsibilities include:


- Delivering high-quality Functional Skills English teaching, learning, and assessment
- Creating engaging lesson plans and learning materials tailored to the military environment
- Monitoring learner progress and maintaining accurate learner records and documentation
- Delivering differentiation-focused teaching, including support for SEN/SpLD learners
- Administering and marking assessments, producing formative and summative reports
- Providing pastoral support, advice, and guidance to learners
- Escalating safeguarding or wellbeing concerns promptly
- Supporting exam coordination, standardisation, and quality improvement activity

What you'll bring:


- A recognised teaching qualification
- Functional Skills Level 2 (or equivalent)
- Experience teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL/CELTA desirable)
- Ability to adapt delivery to a military training environment
- Strong communication skills and a supportive, learner-centred approach
- A positive, flexible attitude with the ability to motivate and build trust with learners
