Strategic Planning has an exciting opportunity for a Future Networks Planning Engineer to join our inclusive team. This full-time role is based in Salford. The successful candidate will presently be at ENG6 level or be willing to work on a development path to reach the ENG6 level.
Our Role
As a Future Networks Planning Engineer, you will ensure Electricity North West meets its relevant license commitments, manages power system models, the underlying model data, maintains CIM format to LTDS and Code requirements including necessary data exchange, shapes future policy changes needed to facilitate the transition to net zero. You will also support and lead the wider team with Customer Connections related work, Compliance activities and the production and ongoing update of ENWL's asset development strategies and associated schemes.
What we are looking for
To apply for this Future Networks Planning Engineer role, you will need to hold a minimum of a degree level qualification in Electrical Engineering. You will also require the following:

  • Demonstrate an excellent understanding of UK power system distribution networks across all voltages
  • Have a thorough technical knowledge of electrical network components, network operation, operational policy, network design standards, Electricity North West Codes of Practice and Engineering Specifications
  • Have a working knowledge and experience of the electricity distribution business, specifically an understanding of regulatory and industry standards within electricity distribution
  • Be proficient in the use of power systems analysis software including IPSA and DINIS
  • Have a detailed understanding of power system modelling, modelling techniques, modelling tools, and the underlying model component data
  • Knowledgeable in data formats, particularly the Common Information Model (CIM) and all relevant technical specification such as that published by Ofgem
  • Be able to perform, and assist others to perform, all relevant specialist technical assessments, including load flow, fault level, electrical system earthing and protection studies, as well as G98, 99 and G5/5 compliance checks
