Gardener / Grounds Person




Salary: 26,208 per annum



Job Type:

Full-time (40 hours per week - Monday to Friday, 08:30-17:00, including an unpaid 30-minute lunch break)

Location:

No fixed location - role is across all New Reflexions properties (including schools) in Shropshire, Staffordshire, and Wales

Company Overview





New Reflexions is a childcare organisation dedicated to offering care, education, and therapy services to young people who have encountered trauma, leading to emotional and behavioural challenges. Specifically, the New Reflexions Children's Residential Service provides therapeutic placements, catering to individuals up to the ages of 18 years, for both short-term and long-term placements.



As a key member of our maintenance team, you'll be responsible for maintaining and enhancing external spaces across all our sites.




Key Responsibilities




General garden maintenance including weeding, pruning, planting, watering, and mowing Operate and maintain gardening tools, mowers, hedge cutters and strimmers Caring for lawns, borders, hedges, and trees Trim hedges, edge lawns, and keep walkways and grounds tidy Apply both organic and chemical herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizers safely Clean garden spaces and keep free from debris, litter, and trip hazards Seasonal planting and landscaping projects Design and construct garden layouts ensuring functionality Safely handle delivery and movement of materials Provide occasional support to the wider maintenance team with minor property repairs



Health, Safety & Safeguarding




Actively follow and uphold New Reflexions' health & safety and safeguarding policies Participate in ongoing health, safety, and safeguarding training Conduct all tasks with personal and team safety as a top priority Serve as a role model of professionalism in conduct, reliability, and presentation



Person Specification



Essential Requirements




Full UK manual driving licence Previous experience in gardening, landscaping, or grounds maintenance Experience working in diverse outdoor environments with varying access challenges Understanding and application of Health & Safety practices in the workplace Ability to collaborate effectively within a team and plan tasks independently



Desirable Experience




Experience and familiarity with machinery (e.g., ride-on mowers, hedge cutters, strimmers) Experience in an educational, childcare, or school setting with awareness of safeguarding protocols



Skills & Personal Qualities




Excellent time management and ability to meet deadlines Self-motivated and adaptable, with proactive problem-solving mindset Able to manage conflicting priorities and flexible working scenarios Strong communicator with keen attention to detail
