Do you like gardening, working outdoors and working with older people? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for the right person, a new role working as a gardener/handyperson within our Sheltered Housing and retirement schemes across the Perth and Kinross area.



You will maintain and enhance the grounds and communal garden areas of sheltered and retirement housing complexes throughout Perth and Kinross area, ensuring they are safe, attractive, and accessible for tenants.



The role supports the wellbeing of older and vulnerable tenants through having attractive and well-maintained areas in and around their homes. It would involve high-quality garden/grounds maintenance, minor DIY/repairs within communal areas, and tenant input/involvement.



You will work in partnership with colleagues including Housing Officers, Sheltered Housing Support Officers and Wellbeing Project Officer to align gardening activities with the needs of each sheltered housing complex.

Skills & Experience Required

You must be able to work with older people in a respectful and inclusive manner, treating them with dignity and respect, ideally having experience of this already.



You should have experience of garden/grounds maintenance or horticulture.



You should be able to carry out DIY having good maintenance skills with the ability to carry out minor repairs safely and effectively.



You should be able to work independently and manage time effectively.



You should have an understanding of health and safety within a gardening and buildings context. Ideally you should have undertaken Health and Safety training, but you should be willing to undertake all relevant Health and Safety training and qualifications that are relevant to the role on an ongoing basis.



You should have good IT skills to be able to keep accurate records and logs of work undertaken.



You should be fit and well to be able to undertake a physically demanding role and also be aware that this role involves working outdoors in all weather conditions.



Whilst not essential, a horticultural qualification would be beneficial.



A full, current driving licence will be essential due to the need to carry out work in all the different sheltered housing units and retirement sites which are spread across Perth and Kinross area. You will be provided with a vehicle for this purpose.
