Job Summary

We are looking for a new full time Gardener/groundsman at Kinnaird Castle.

The job is varied with many areas requiring attention. There are formal lawns and borders around the Castle both on the terrace and in Flora's garden (5 acres) .

A small poly tunnel is kept for production of limited vegetables and flowers. The Vault (family burial ground) is some distance away and also requires upkeep. The gravel, borders and grass at the front of the Castle require constant maintenance. The autumn brings work to leaf clearance.

Knowledge of machinery and ability to maintain it is important as is the requirement to work with other departments for more major tasks ,such as Castle maintenance.

The job also includes the maintenance of grass and borders at the Estate Office, Farnell Castle , and any let house which might be vacant in the summer.

Full driving licence a requirement and spraying and chainsaw certificates a bonus.

Accommodation could be offered, if required.

Responsibilities

Utilise hand tools and power tools effectively for various gardening tasks. Conduct regular maintenance, including mowing, edging, and planting. Assist in the growth and care of plants, ensuring they thrive in their environment. Monitor plant health and identify any signs of disease or distress, taking appropriate action. Collaborate with team members to plan and execute landscaping projects efficiently. Maintain cleanliness and organisation of tools and equipment used in daily operations.

Skills

Proficient in the use of hand tools and power tools relevant to gardening and landscaping. Experience in horticulture, would be an advantage but not essential. A desire to learn is essential. Familiarity with landscape maintenance practices to enhance outdoor spaces. A passion for gardening, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Strong attention to detail, ensuring that all tasks are completed to a high standard.
