We have the following placement available to work within The Dental Team in Peterborough. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in providing high-quality care to individuals experiencing mental health challenges.
Duties
Provide chair side assistance with speed and accuracy during all dental procedures, anticipating the needs of both clinician and patient.
Prepare and mix filling and impression materials; handle instruments with precision.
Support and observe patients throughout treatment, acting as chaperone/witness when required.
Assist with x-rays, including processing, mounting, and quality assurance.
Offer oral hygiene advice to patients/carers as directed by the dentist.
Maintain stock levels and ensure equipment is cleaned, maintained, and fit for use.
Organise and attend school screenings and epidemiology surveys, ensuring accurate recording and reporting.
Manage patient records, consent forms, treatment plans, and medical histories with confidentiality and accuracy.
Handle appointments, calls, and administrative duties efficiently, ensuring smooth running of the surgery and day lists.
Liaise effectively with patients, carers, staff, and external professionals.
Provide emotional support to patients, especially those with anxiety or special needs.
Use IT systems for data input, treatment planning, payments, and financial tasks (cashing up, banking, petty cash).
Work independently when required, managing administration and providing advice.
Skills
Strong chair side assistance skills, ensuring speed, accuracy, and anticipation of clinician and patient needs.
Proficient in preparing and handling dental materials, instruments, and equipment with precision.
Skilled in supporting and reassuring patients, providing empathy and emotional care, particularly for anxious or special needs individuals.
Knowledgeable in dental radiography, including assisting, processing, and quality assurance.
Excellent administrative skills, including appointment management, record keeping, consent documentation, and data entry.
Effective communicator with patients, carers, healthcare professionals, and external partners, overcoming potential barriers such as language and anxiety.
Strong organisational and problem-solving skills to ensure smooth running of surgery, screenings, and hospital day lists.
Ability to work independently, managing administration and providing advice when required.
Requirements
Current registration with the General Dental Council (GDC)
Strong understanding of dental health conditions and related care practices
Excellent communication, clinical, and interpersonal skills
Ability to remain calm and professional in high-pressure situations
Must pass an enhanced DBS check and drug screening
