Overview



As a Store Manager at Geek Retreat, you are responsible for driving the growth, culture, and commercial success of the store. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who is passionate about tabletop hobbies and understands how Trading Card Games, Tabletop Roleplaying Games, Board Games, and cafe spaces work together to create welcoming, community-led environments.

You will be expected to take initiative, identify opportunities for growth, and act on them quickly, combining strong retail or hospitality management skills with confident product knowledge, cafe awareness, and a proactive, sales-driven mindset.

Key Responsibilities



Commercial Leadership & Growth



Take ownership of store performance by identifying and acting on opportunities to grow sales, footfall, and community participation across TCGs, TTRPGs, board games, and cafe trade. Drive product and cafe sales through confident recommendations, upselling, and event-led engagement. Analyse sales trends, event attendance, and customer behaviour to inform stock, scheduling, and promotional decisions. Convert casual visitors into regular customers and active community members.

Hobby & Game System Leadership



Demonstrate strong working knowledge of Geek Retreat's core hobby areas: Trading Card Games (e.g. Pokemon, Disney Lorcana, Magic: The Gathering, One Piece) / Tabletop Roleplaying Games (e.g. Dungeons & Dragons and similar systems) / Board Games and accessories Confidently sell products and explain gameplay concepts, formats, and entry points for players of all experience levels. Lead, host, or actively support in-store events including Learn to Play sessions, organised play, campaigns, leagues, and casual gaming. Ensure hobby events are engaging, welcoming, and commercially effective. Develop team knowledge and confidence across all hobby categories.

Cafe Operations & Food Safety



Prepare and serve hot and cold drinks in line with Geek Retreat cafe standards. Order and manage cafe food and drink supplies, maintaining availability while controlling costs and minimising waste. Ensure safe handling, storage, and preparation of ingredients in line with food hygiene and safety regulations. Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the cafe area at all times. Train and support staff in cafe procedures, allergen awareness, and hygiene standards.

Community Building & Events



Build inclusive, engaged communities across multiple hobby interests, encouraging crossover between TCGs, TTRPGs, and board games. Plan and deliver a varied events calendar that balances community engagement with revenue generation. Grow participation in regular events such as campaigns, leagues, and weekly play nights. Manage and support the Community Champions programme and in-store communications.

Team Leadership & Management



Lead and develop a team of full-time and part-time staff, setting clear expectations around engagement, knowledge, sales, and cafe standards. Coach staff to be confident hobby advocates and competent cafe operators. Schedule staff rotas in line with payroll budgets and gross margin targets. Foster a positive, inclusive culture while maintaining accountability and commercial focus.

Customer Experience



Create a welcoming environment where players of all backgrounds, identities, ages, and experience levels feel comfortable. Lead by example on the shop floor, behind the counter, and during events. Handle customer feedback professionally, using it to strengthen retention and community trust.

Operational Excellence



Maintain high standards of cleanliness, health, safety, and compliance across retail, cafe, and play spaces. Oversee stock management for games, accessories, and cafe supplies, including ordering and stock control. Ensure daily actions, routines, and operational standards are followed consistently.

Social Media Management



Manage the store's social media presence using provided templates and guidelines. Promote events, products, and community activity to drive engagement and attendance. Monitor and respond to customer messages and enquiries promptly and professionally.

The Role:



As a Geek Retreat Store Manager, you are a community leader, commercial driver, hobby expert, and cafe operator. Your enthusiasm for tabletop gaming, combined with your ability to deliver excellent service and grow both retail and cafe sales, will be central to the store's success.

This role is ideal for someone who loves tabletop gaming and thrives in a community-focused cafe environment, where selling, teaching, and running events are part of creating great experiences.
