: General Builder (Commercial)

Location: Various commercial sites (including out-of-hours work as required)

Employment Type: Full-time / Contract / Subcontract /Zero-Hour Contract

Job Purpose: The General Builder will be responsible for carrying out a wide range of commercial building maintenance and repair works, including flooring installations, door repairs, minor plumbing tasks, and painting and decoration. The role requires flexibility, strong technical skills, and strict adherence to health and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities - General Building Works

Carry out general building maintenance and repair workso Prepare and protect work areaso Complete works in line with specifications and standardso Liaise with site management and report progress
Flooring Works

Remove existing floor finishes and prepare subfloorso Install vinyl, LVT, carpet tiles, laminate, timber, and tileso Apply primers and self-levelling compoundso Refit skirting boards and trimso Adjust doors following flooring installation
Door Repairs & Carpentry

Repair and adjust internal and external doorso Replace hinges, closers, locks, and ironmongeryo Carry out minor carpentry workso Fire door adjustments (certification excluded unless specified)
Plumbing (Minor / Reactive)

Replace taps, valves, traps, and WC componentso Carry out basic leak detection and pipework repairso Reconnect appliances such as sinks and dishwasherso Test and reinstate services
Painting & Decoration

Prepare surfaces including filling, sanding, and primingo Carry out internal painting and decorating to commercial standardso Apply emulsion, gloss, satin, and specialist coatings as requiredo Make good following repairs and maintenance workso Ensure clean finishes and protection of surrounding areas
Health & Safety

Follow site health & safety procedures and RAMSo Work safely in occupied environmentso Ensure compliance with regulations
Skills & Experience

Proven commercial general building experienceo Strong flooring, decorating, and carpentry skillso Basic to intermediate plumbing knowledgeo Ability to work independently
Qualifications

CSCS card (preferred)o Relevant trade qualifications (desirable)o Full UK driving licence (preferred)o Own tools (for subcontract roles)
Pay: 12.21-37.76 per hour

Expected hours: 10 - 40 per week
