We're looking for a seasoned and strategic

General Counsel - Europe

to join our European leadership team. In this key position, you will lead the legal function across all European markets, providing expert legal guidance and operational support to ensure compliance, manage risk, and enable commercial success in a fast-paced and diverse business environment. Your leadership will be instrumental in supporting Aggreko's strategic priorities, including delivering customer-centric solutions, simplifying legal processes, driving accountability, and enabling sustainable growth. You will shape legal strategy, foster collaboration across teams, and deliver results that support both our business and our values.

What you'll do:

Strategic Legal Leadership:

Act as the principal legal advisor to the European business, aligning legal strategy with commercial goals. Champion simplicity and clarity in legal processes, communicating complex issues clearly to support fast, effective decision-making. Demonstrate the confidence to challenge constructively to drive positive change. Embrace innovation and leverage technology and AI to enhance legal service delivery, streamline processes, and improve efficiency across the European legal function.

Commercial & Contractual Support:

Lead legal input on complex commercial transactions, ensuring contracts meet global standards and local regulations while delivering customer-centric outcomes. Manage resources prudently, ensuring legal services are cost-efficient and commercially justified.

Regulatory & Compliance Oversight:

Monitor and advise on legal developments across Europe ensuring compliance with applicable laws, promoting a culture of accountability, and ethical conduct.. Encourage open communication and collaboration across teams to uphold compliance standards.

Dispute Resolution & Risk Management:

Manage disputes and claims proactively, identifying legal risks and developing mitigation strategies that support business continuity and performance.

Governance & Ethics:

Promote high standards of corporate governance and ethical conduct, supporting the implementation of Aggreko's compliance framework with integrity and responsibility.

Team Leadership & Development:

Lead and develop a high-performing, inclusive legal team across multiple jurisdictions. Foster a culture of trust, empowerment, and continuous learning, encouraging team members to grow as future leaders. Collaborate with Aggreko's legal teams across the globe to share best practices.

You'll have the following skills and experience:

Qualified lawyer in a European jurisdiction with at least 10 years post-qualification experience Proven experience in a senior in-house legal role within a pan-European business Strong expertise in commercial law, contract negotiation, and regulatory compliance Experience managing legal teams in matrixed, cross-border environments Fluency in English; proficiency in other European languages is highly desirable
