For over 16 years, we have been fixing gutters and roofs in and around London. We are not the biggest yet, but we operate in a very special niche with our teams of full-fledged roofers - and we are determined to expand our business. For this reason, we are looking for a General Manager who wants to manage the day to day business to allow our Directors to expand the business. In time, you will play your part in the expansion as well.
Our office is located in East Grinstead, West Sussex and this is where the work will have to be done. This role cannot be done from home.
As Manger, you would get trained on all parts of the business: HR, Marketing, Sales, Delivery, Treasury and Customer Service. You would, in fact, depending on your background and experience, have to do all of these functions yourself in the beginning to gain valuable experience. At times you will be hands on, to learn the ropes. After this initial training, you would then be quickly grooved in by the director for the position of General Manager. Managing the day to day business, working closely with the Director to ensure the office can keep stable whilst the operation expands. You will be responsible for implementing clearly defined strategies and ensuring established procedures are adhered to. We are extremely well organised with all functions written up and clearly stated, ideally poised for expansion in a huge market.
Your mission will definitely be a challenge. Many things need to be sorted to see the business achieve its new level of expansion by the end of 2026 and moving forward from there. The skill lies in managing the various parts of the business and to do this at the same rate as the number of roofers expands. Maintaining this balance while managing day to day business can be tricky. The day to day responsibility for the company will be on your shoulders and your actions will affect the livelihoods of many. As part of this, the function of the General Manager includes ensuring that every job is completed to a good standard, and you shouldn't go home until all is done.
You will be leading a team of, at this time, 19 well trained and experienced team members, some working remotely, and you will be responsible for ensuring that each of them achieves the expected results of their job. This includes hitting monthly targets for sales and delivery of services. You will be responsible for knowing the whole company strategy and operation in order to straighten out any problems. You will also be responsible for ensuring the staff maintain the company strategy, ethos and standard operating procedures. You will lead the staff and through them the company towards new achievements, and all of this within the financial resources of the company. This is not an easy task as there are competitors on the market, and to succeed we have to keep improving all parts of our operation continually.
Your personality and background:
- If you are good at learning and applying new information, then you can be successful with no history in the construction or roofing industry, but some experience in managing a team is essential.
- You are a person who likes to work consistently in a very stable company.
- You know the importance of routine and you are used to building or keeping systems functioning without having to change them unless absolutely necessary - but when change is required, you can embrace it and adapt to changed circumstances.
- You have a natural sense for order.
- For getting hired, the most important point: You can prove that you have managed large groups of people towards success in the past by being the driving force behind them.
You will need to have a verifiable past of creating value, profit and expansion. Include in your job application the amount of proven valuable results achieved in your current and previous jobs. The amount of results needed to succeed in this job is very high and these results need to be created by self-determined decisions and actions.
The earnings mentioned on the ad are the starting salary and bonus after completion of your initial training. There will be high rewards and bonuses for attaining set targets, which will lift your earnings higher, but these are dependent on your production.
