DSV are recruiting for a General Manager at Peterborough. Reporting to the Director Operations (North Region), the General Manager has overall responsibility for leading a team in providing high quality services for all customers in the Gateway location. The General Manager is a key member of the Senior Management Team and is responsible (with other members of the Senior Management Team) for implementing the regional/site plans, operational structures and site/customer specific procedures as determined by the Senior Management Team. In addition, the General Manager is responsible for ensuring the site meets performance standards set in the key result areas of the business.

Key Tasks

  • Together with the Site Management team, this role must seek to develop and increase profitability by providing enhanced value-added services. To ensure the efficient delivery of services to all customers within the site in line with the company\'s business strategy and the effective control of all site functions to operational flow, and excellence.
Duties / Responsibilities
  • Ensuring that the site implements effective and efficient management of all operating systems and procedures in line with the Company\'s guidelines. Ensuring that the performance of the site in the key result areas is monitored and reviewed on an ongoing basis and that remedial action is taken to deal with unsatisfactory results.
  • Ensuring that all buildings and equipment are maintained to maximise their value and comply with current legal and safety requirements.
  • Ensuring the efficient management of the Site\'s financial accounts and the implementation of effective financial control procedures in line with Company guidelines, maintaining effective liaison with the Regional Contract Accountant. The control of all overhead budgets for the Site including employment, fleet, and other overhead costs to maximise profitability in line with the Site\'s business plans.
  • Overseeing the recruitment, training, development, and discipline of all personnel employed at the site, maintaining appropriate liaison with the Company\'s HR department. Ensuring that all employees in the site work to the required standards of the Company and are assessed through regular performance reviews. Monitoring, on an ongoing basis, the performance of all direct reports, and undertake regular reviews in accordance with the Company\'s procedures. In addition to ensure that the employee engagement concept is known as the People Plan/appraisal system is embedded and practiced within the site.
  • Promoting the good name of DSV Solutions (and its associated companies within DSV) by always adopting a professional approach. Ensuring that there is regular communication through team briefings with all employees in the site in order that they are made aware of national and local developments affecting the Company.
  • To promote, support and implement the site continuous improvement program/s.
  • Maintaining effective liaison with the Company\'s Business development team to ensure the maximum recruitment of new customers and the development of the existing customer base in line with the Company\'s strategic objectives and targets.
  • Maintaining an effective chain of communication with Site Management Team to ensure operational and financial performance is reviewed on a regular basis, by encompassing daily, weekly, and monthly meetings. Establish a clear concept of proactive management to mitigate all risks associated with high profile customers on site.
  • Understand and comply with all relevant Company rules, agreements, policies, procedures and with all relevant legislative requirements and codes of practice.
  • Ensure Company business is treated in the strictest confidence and not disclosed to persons outside the Company.
  • Act in a professional manner, ensure good working relationships are always maintained and promote a good image of the Company
  • Maintain and comply with all Health, Safety and Environmental standards, to be aware of the Occupational Health & Safety Management System, OHSAS18001 and to appreciate the responsibility you must adhere to the respective procedures.
  • Be aware that the Company operates a Quality Assurance system ISO 9001:2008 and adhere to the respective procedures.
  • Ensure a good standard of housekeeping through observance of relevant Company policies and ensure that work areas are secure and locked when unoccupied.
  • Where appropriate challenge and determine reasons for presence on site of any unauthorised person.
  • Attend any development training as required in compliance with the Company\'s commitment to the Investors In People standard.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Good understanding of Warehouse processes and procedures
  • Excellent people management skills
  • Experience of Warehouse Management Systems
  • Passionate about delivering great customer service
  • Hard working and conscientious. Can lead a team and work within a team
  • Proven management skills with the ability to optimise team performance and development
  • Highly developed inter-personal and communication skills coupled with the ability to negotiate and influence at all levels within the business
  • Ability to build, lead and motivate a skilled team able to meet objectives and agreed targets
  • Good IT skills, in particular spreadsheets and databases and a knowledge of warehouse systems
  • Analytical and numerical
  • Strong decision-making skills
  • Excellent attention to detail skills
  • 4 GCSE\'s or equivalent, 3 A Level\'s or equivalent.
  • 5 years of Senior Operational Management Role. 3 Years in successfully running a large Multiuser Operation.
  • Significant budgeting and financial reporting exposure
  • Excellent Microsoft Office Skills
  • Leadership, ability of achieving and exceeding business goals.
  • Ability to lead and motivate direct reports
  • Highly motivated with a positive attitude
  • High organisational skills, ability to plan and manage own time
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to communicate at all levels
  • Full driving licence
  • Degree Qualified or equivalent (Desirable)
  • 5 Years Site Management Experience (Desirable)
  • Ability to drive organic business growth (Desirable)
  • 2 Years of Continuous Improvement Experience (Lean/Six Sigma) (Desirable)
  • Strong Stock/Inventory skills (Desirable)
  • Supplier negotiation experience (Desirable)
  • Emotional Intelligence Awareness (Desirable)
