The role



As a GP, you will be part of a large and multidisciplinary team of allied health professionals, and your work will be firmly grounded in direct, compassionate care or clinical work with patients, families, and disadvantaged communities.

Main duties of the job



As a GP, your clinical responsibilities include conducting surgery and telephone consultations, managing queries, home visits, repeat prescriptions, and timely correspondence. You will make autonomous decisions for self-referred and referred patients, assess undiagnosed health concerns, screen for disease risks, provide counselling, and deliver health education. You will admit or discharge patients, refer to other care providers, and ensure consultation notes and data meet agreed standards. Responsibilities include issuing computer-generated prescriptions, adhering to the Practice prescribing formulary, and fulfilling duties expected of a GP in primary care.

Organisational responsibilities involve participating in developing and delivering new services and care models, adhering to Practice policies (e.g., prescribing, confidentiality, data protection), and committing to ongoing learning and evidence-based best practices. You will contribute to Enhanced Services, QOF/IIF initiatives, audits, and clinical standard setting. Additional duties include maintaining and developing patient records, summarising and Read-Coding data, and attending relevant training and events.

What we would like you to do



Clinical Responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:

Hold surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion. Make professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self- referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation. Assess the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems. Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness Provide counselling and health education Admit or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate Record clear consultation notes to agreed standards Collect data for audit purposes Comply and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand- written prescriptions whenever possible) Prescribe in accordance with the Practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate Undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.
Other Responsibilities within the Organisation:

Participate in the development and delivery of new services and new models for care in Primary Care Awareness of and compliance with all relevant Practice policies/guidelines, e.g. prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety A commitment to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice Contribute to delivering of Enhanced Services Contribute to the delivery of QOF/IIF and any other quality performance initiatives. Contribute to evaluation/audit and clinical standard setting within the organisation Contribute to the development of computer-based patient records Contribute to the summarising of patient records and Read-Coding patient data Attend training and events organised by the Practice or other agencies, where appropriate. As a training hub, the organisation provides education and development opportunities for medical and non-medical students as well as qualified trainees. You will be expected to contribute actively to training and supervisory activities. You will also be involved in clinical work with neurodiverse patients and trans, non-binary and intersex (TNBI) patients. Full training and support will be provided to ensure confidence and competence in these areas.

Person Specification



Qualifications

Essential

Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC). Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners (MRCGP) or equivalent. Evidence of commitment to Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
Knowledge

Essential

Sound understanding of current NHS policies and guidelines, including clinical governance. Awareness of safeguarding practices and policies. Knowledge of prescribing protocols and formulary adherence.
Desirable

Familiarity with local health services and community resources.
Other Requirements

Essential

Commitment to diversity and inclusion, aligned with the practices ethos. Ability to work between the practices three sites as required. Eligible to work in the UK. Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check.

Experience

Essential

Proven experience working as a GP in a primary care setting. Experience in managing a range of undifferentiated and undiagnosed clinical conditions. Experience with Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) and other quality performance initiatives.
Desirable

Previous experience in delivering Enhanced Services or specialised clinics (e.g., hormone clinics, community outreach). Participation in audit and clinical standard-setting initiatives.
Skill and Abilities

Essential

Excellent diagnostic and clinical skills. Ability to work autonomously while making safe, evidence-based decisions. Competent in using electronic patient record systems and clinical coding. Strong communication skills to effectively counsel, educate, and build rapport with patients and multidisciplinary teams. Demonstrated ability to contribute to service improvement and development.
Desirable

Additional qualifications or special interests that complement the practice's services.
