Applications are invited for a fixed term (17 months) full time GeoBus Education Assistant in the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences (SEES). GeoBus is a free educational outreach project developed and run by the School of Earth & Environmental Sciences, active since 2012. Its aims are to support Earth and Environmental Science teaching in Secondary and Primary schools across Scotland through in-school workshops, educational resources, teacher career long professional learning (CLPL) courses, and by providing a bridge between industry, HEIs, Research Councils and schools, and to highlight career opportunities in STEM. GeoBus also participates in its sister educational programme 'GeoBus Without Borders' to deliver its programme internationally.
We are seeking a dynamic and motivated individual to fill the role of Education Assistant, providing support to the GeoBus Education Coordinator in delivering GeoBus activities. The Education Assistant will have responsibility for all social media to broadcast GeoBus activities and will assist with in-classroom workshops and teacher CLPL delivery. The position requires the successful candidate to become, or be, a member of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups Scheme for regulated work with children. Assistance in obtaining membership will be provided.
Experience with STEM public engagement and/or teaching is essential for this role, as is an ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences in a variety of delivery settings. Experience with either secondary or primary level teaching is desirable, as is familiarity with Earth and environmental science topics.
