The Geological Advisor analyzes, evaluates, and interprets geological data obtained by various methods and techniques. The job provides clients with accurate descriptions and characteristics of reservoirs and provides advanced level advice and support on all geological issues to senior business and technical leaders. Develop plans and deliver results in fast-changing businesses and/or regulatory environments. Provides input to functional or departmental strategy and looks beyond existing methodologies and own discipline to define and resolve complex problems. This senior-level position requires a PhD in geoscience and proven leadership capabilities, including experience supervising technical teams and guiding interdisciplinary projects. The role supports high-impact decision-making by delivering expert geological interpretations to both internal stakeholders and external clients, while actively driving innovation in subsurface reservoir characterization.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs advanced regional and field level subsurface characterizations, integrating multiple data types to evaluate exploration and development potential.
Measures, describes, computers, analyzes, and integrates geological and petrophysical data. Must be able to competently perform all of the following: carbonate and clastic sedimentological core description, carbonate and clastic thin section petrography, well log analysis and integration of petrophysical data with geological datasets.
Proactively engages with other geoscientists and engineers to interpret and integrate results of subsurface evaluation, as well as concisely report out results and implications for prospectivity.
Participates in defining and executing evaluation strategies and programs including mini-pilot studies to test specific subsurface uncertainties.
Uses their working knowledge of petroleum systems to assess reservoir connectivity between one or more units.
Monitors and assesses new technology and ideas and learning from competitor activity in other areas in order to identify new revenue streams for Core Lab.
Provides mentoring and technical guidance to colleagues and Core Lab's collaborative partner companies.
Maintains active role in professional and industry associations and organizations to stay abreast of technical development and industry needs.
Represents Core Lab in industry forums, technical committees, and professional associations, helping to shape Core Lab services to the wider energy industry.
Supports business development through technical engagement with clients, proposal contributions, and project presentations.
Undertake other duties as assigned by the senior management.
Perform additional duties as assigned, demonstrating adaptability and a commitment to operational excellence.
QUALIFICATIONS
PhD in geoscience or a related area from an accredited university
Minimum of 20 years of professional experience or relevant industry experience.
Proven track record of technical leadership and supervision of geoscientific teams.
Demonstrated experience in client-facing roles and complex project delivery in fast-paced environments.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES
Deep technical expertise in carbonate sedimentology, diagenesis, reservoir quality analysis, and petroleum systems modeling.
Strong leadership, mentoring, and supervisory skills, with the ability to guide both individuals and multidisciplinary teams.
Advanced skills in core description, petrographic analysis, and well log integration specific to carbonate reservoirs.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including technical reporting and presentation to non-technical audiences.
Demonstrated analytical thinking and problem-solving in complex geological scenarios.
High proficiency in geological and petrophysical interpretation software, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
