About Asset Information Services (AIS)
Our AIS teams provide reliable and sustainable products and services to Network Rail and industry customers. They provide insight and intelligence that is used to keep passenger and freight services moving. Using cutting-edge, world leading technology, such as lasers, ultrasonics, and high-resolution imagery; the team check the tracks structure, position and condition, they also monitor the high voltage wires and rails that supplier power to the trains. With this and the use of geo-analytical intelligence, we can plan maintenance and renewal works from the safety of our offices and depos, reducing risk to our colleagues and disruption to our services.
About the role (External)
Variety is what really sets this role apart, no two days are the same. You'll be travelling and undertaking inspections and surveys one day and another day you'll be using GIS to problem solve customer enquiries from across the business and our stakeholders.
You will be using Leica GNSS (GPS), Total Station, laser scanner and conventional surveying methods across a wide range of surveying tasks; from demarcating Network Rail's land boundary, undertaking topographical surveys of station car parks to scanning railway arches and bridges for 3D modelling and monitoring. Experience in post-processing survey data in Reg360, LSS and/or CAD will be an advantage but not essential.
When you're not on site you will be using ArcGIS and ArcPro to digitise areas for lease renewals, land purchases or sales and bespoke customer requests. You will also be advising customers on Network Rail's land ownership and the associated history; comparing historic records to modern day Land Registry titles to build a picture of land ownership through time.
What will you be doing...
Use GIS and occasionally CAD to analyse a variety of datasets and provide evidence to customers in the form of Land Registry compliant plans or digital maps. You will also be responsible for producing Land Registry compliant plans to be used in legal transactions.
Directly update our company-wide corporate mapping system using GIS Versioning.
Attend sites throughout the UK to undertake land surveys using traditional surveying methods, GNSS, Total Station and Laser Scanner.
Represent Network Rail as a subject matter expert in land ownership by utilising our unique access to historical records.
Ensure the data governance over any data shared with Network Rail and our stakeholders.
Contribute to our team's continuous improvement initiative by sharing your knowledge and ideas.
