We are currently looking to recruit a trainee field technician to join our busy and expanding UKAS accredited geotechnical laboratory.
We offer a range of laboratory and in-situ testing to the construction industry specialising in soil classification & compaction tests.
The role will be based in Dyce however, it will also include frequent travel to client's sites all over Scotland. Occasional overnight stays will also be expected as part of the position.
As a Field Technician, you will be at the
front line of our ground investigations
- working outdoors on construction, infrastructure and development sites, carrying out tests and collecting data that our engineers will use for design and analysis. This is a practical, site-based role that suits someone who likes being active, problem-solving on site and working as part of a small team.
Standard working hours are 8-5 Monday to Friday with an overtime rate paid for any extra hours worked.
Key Responsibilities
Carry out
in-situ geotechnical tests
, which may include:
Standard Penetration Tests (SPT)
Dynamic Cone Penetration Tests (DCP)
Plate load tests
CBR testing
In-situ density and moisture content testing
Permeability tests / soakaway tests
Assist with and/or supervise
drilling and trial pitting operations
.
Log soils and rocks in accordance with BS5930 (or relevant standards).
Take soil, rock, and groundwater samples to the required standards.
Accurately record site data, test results, and observations.
Ensure all work is carried out in line with
health, safety, and environmental
procedures.
Liaise with project engineers, subcontractors and clients on site.
Maintain and calibrate field equipment and vehicles.
Essential:
Understanding of common geotechnical field tests and their purpose.
Full UK driving licence (clean or minimal points).
Willingness to work outdoors in all weather and travel to different sites.
Good level of physical fitness.
Strong attention to detail and accurate record keeping.
Right to work in the UK.
Desirable:
Experience in
in-situ geotechnical testing
on construction or infrastructure projects.
Experience working for a
ground investigation / geotechnical
contractor.
Familiarity with BS5930 and Eurocode 7.
CSCS card and relevant H&S training
Experience with basic surveying / GPS equipment.
