A Career in Landscape and Design

Landscape architecture brings together design, analysis, and visual storytelling - and

graphics and GIS

play a key role in how we communicate ideas, explain landscapes, and inspire our clients.

If you enjoy blending

creative design

with

spatial data and mapping

, this role offers a great opportunity to grow your skills within a supportive, multidisciplinary team.

The Role - GIS and Graphic Designer

We're looking for a

GIS and Graphic Designer

to help us deliver

high-quality, visually compelling landscape projects

. You'll work closely with our landscape architects and planners, using a mix of GIS, Adobe Creative Suite, and (ideally) 3D tools to bring our ideas to life and support key design and analysis work.

You'll report to our Associate and Senior Landscape Architects, and you'll have the chance to shape the visual language of our practice - from project graphics to marketing materials.

What You'll Be Doing

Your role will combine

GIS analysis

,

graphic design

, and

visualisation

, supporting the delivery and communication of landscape projects across the practice.

GIS Responsibilities:

Managing and analysing spatial data for landscape planning and assessment projects. Developing and maintaining GIS databases with accuracy and consistency. Producing

site plans, topographic maps, constraints plans, and environmental analysis maps

. Interpreting survey data, aerial imagery, and environmental datasets for mapping. Integrating GIS outputs into design workflows, reports, and presentations.

Working with the team to refine, update, and improve GIS templates, ensuring consistency and efficiency across projects.

Graphic Design & Photoshop Responsibilities:

Producing

high-quality visualisations, rendered drawings, diagrams, and presentation graphics

. Creating visually engaging

presentation boards, brochures, and reports

for landscape design proposals. Ensuring all visuals reflect EDLA's visual style and project goals. Supporting the creation of marketing content, including

website imagery and social media visuals

. Preparing and refining images for branding, proposals, and digital use.

General Responsibilities:

Assisting in the preparation and delivery of design presentations. Collaborating closely with the wider team on project outputs. Organising and archiving GIS and design files so they are easy for the team to access. Keeping up to date with new digital tools, GIS innovations, and design techniques. Contributing to improvements in digital workflows and asset management systems. Seeking out training opportunities or conferences relevant to GIS and design -- and sharing insights with the team.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone creative, precise, and enthusiastic about combining

design

with

spatial thinking

.

Ideally, you'll have:

A

degree

in Graphic Design, Landscape Architecture, Architecture or a similar discipline. A proficiency in

ArcGIS

for mapping, data management, and analysis (or a willingness to learn.) Solid skills in

Adobe Photoshop

, with knowledge of Illustrator and InDesign. Experience creating

maps, visualisations, diagrams, and digital presentations

.

A strong eye for design, layout, and visual storytelling

, with the ability to communicate ideas clearly and beautifully. An understanding of landscape design principles and terminology (or a willingness to learn). The ability to integrate GIS outputs smoothly into design workflows. Great attention to detail and a commitment to producing visually consistent, high-quality work. The ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Good communication skills and a collaborative, positive attitude. A proactive, creative mindset and an enthusiasm for learning new tools and techniques.
Desirable but not essential:

Experience with

3D modelling software

such as SketchUp, Rhino, or AutoCAD. An understanding of environmental planning, ecology, or sustainable design.

Who You Are

We think you'll thrive in this role if you are:

Creative and analytical in equal measure. Confident working with both data and visual design. Friendly, approachable, and good at communicating ideas. Organised, with good attention to detail. Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a small team. Motivated, curious, and eager to grow your skills.

Progression

As you develop in the role, you'll have the opportunity to take the lead on:

GIS systems, updates, training, template development, and data management

, and

Graphics standards and workflows

, including Photoshop, Illustrator, and visual-presentation best practice.
This progression path offers the chance to become our in-house specialist for GIS and design, shaping the way our practice communicates visually.
