Job Description


Key focus:

As a GIS Technician, you will be responsible for fibre network infrastructure planning and design that meet customer requirements and comply with industry standards.

Position details:

Location: Fully office based. The candidate must live in a communing distance to our offices in Plympton or be ready to relocate at own cost.

Working hours: Monday \xe2\x80\x93 Friday, 8 am \xe2\x80\x93 5 pm with 1 hour of lunchbreak

Annual salary: \xc2\xa326,000 - \xc2\xa334,000 depending on experience, the higher end of the scale for experience as GIS Engineer/Designer

Annual leave entitlement: 28 days, inclusive of bank holidays

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and design FTTx network infrastructure based on customer requirements and industry standards.
  • Document, compile, convert and organise GIS data from maps, databases and other sources.
  • Analyse existing network infrastructure and identify areas for improvement.
  • Ensure data quality assurance and maintenance of standard operating procedures and policies.
  • Use QGIS and other design software to create detailed network maps and diagrams.
  • Prepare maps, reports, and other relevant information to stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure successful network implementation.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to field technicians during network deployment.
  • Keep up to date with industry trends and best practices in FTTx network planning and design.
  • Any other duties that may reasonably be required of you.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor\'s degree in telecommunications, electrical engineering or a related field, or equivalent (desirable).
  • Experience in FTTx network planning and design.
  • Expertise in using QGIS and other design software.
  • Experience in using Mergin maps would advantageous.
  • Knowledge of fibre optic network infrastructure and design standards.
  • Knowledge of industry regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Can-do attitude, positive and open minded to changes and process enhancements.
  • Detail oriented, analytical with a general ability to learn and use a variety of software/systems.
  • Experienced in working with Openreach PIA requirements when planning and/or designing infrastructure using the Openreach network.
  • Basic DBS check is required.
