About the Role:
They are currently seeking a skilled
Glass Blower
, ideally with experience in glass-to-metal seals and ultra-high vacuum products, to join their precision engineering team. The successful candidate will be responsible for fabricating delicate hermetically-sealed glass-to-metal assemblies, working closely with stainless steel and titanium flanges. This is a critical role where the ability to perform fine precision glassblowing is essential, with close temperature control and accuracy. The ideal candidate will possess expert-level skills in technical glassblowing and a strong understanding of the unique demands of ultra-high vacuum systems.
General glassblowing for ornamental purposes will also be considered.
Responsibilities:
Perform precise glassblowing of delicate glass-to-metal assemblies, ensuring hermetic seals.
Use controlled heating and cooling techniques to maintain integrity and precision during fabrication.
Adhere to stringent quality standards, ensuring assemblies meet ultra-high vacuum specifications.
Collaborate with engineering teams to refine techniques specific to vacuum-optic products.
Conduct regular maintenance and calibration of glassblowing tools and equipment.
Maintain detailed records of materials, parameters, and processes used.
Troubleshoot and resolve fabrication issues that may arise during production.
Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance processes and product quality.
Requirements
Proven experience as a Glass Blower, ideally with technical or scientific glassblowing background.
Expertise in precision work, especially in glass-to-metal sealing.
Experience with controlled heating and cooling methods to ensure structural integrity.
Strong understanding of materials such as borosilicate glass, stainless steel, and titanium in high-precision applications.
Ability to work in cleanroom environments and uphold product quality in demanding conditions.
Excellent attention to detail and ability to work under strict quality controls.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Good communication skills and the ability to collaborate with engineers and other departments.
