About the business unit




The Energy unit delivers services to clients globally across a number of sectors including hydropower, nuclear, waste, renewable generation and transmission & distribution networks. Together we provide integrated engineering and project management services across the project lifecycle - from concept and design, to construction and operations, to decommissioning or repowering and life extension. Together with our clients, we're helping to deliver the energy transition globally.

About the role



Our Nuclear; Defence and Civil division delivers projects to a wide range of clients across the defence, existing, and nuclear new build sectors. Due to recent project wins and the continued growth of our business, we are recruiting a Principal C&I Engineer to join our team. The role will involve providing strategic and technical leadership in the delivery of C&I designs in line with project requirements, while offering oversight and guidance to multi disciplinary teams.

Responsibilities



Provide leadership in the execution of control and instrumentation work on projects, in accordance with C&I design instructions and company/project procedures. Champion and ensure adherence to safety, quality, cost, and schedule targets across project delivery. Define and oversee the planning of control and instrumentation scopes of work across multiple projects or complex workstreams. Lead input into project planning, risk management, and execution strategies. Approve budgets and manpower forecasts; contribute to resource planning across the team. Delegate work and deliverables effectively, ensuring clarity of scope, quality expectations, and deadlines. Provide high-level technical review and approval of deliverables to ensure compliance with required standards. Represent the discipline at engineering meetings and high-level client interfaces; lead cross-functional collaboration where required. Ensure compliance with all discipline-related legal obligations, including CDM, safety (including application of the EDSPS), environmental and site licence conditions. Ensure deliverables and engineering solutions are technically sound and defensible. Promote and ensure understanding and application of relevant legislation, as well as client- and project-specific policies, procedures, and design standards.

Requirements



Degree qualified in electrical engineering or equivalent. Chartered status and membership of a relevant professional body. Deep technical expertise in all aspects of control and instrumentation, including: Design basis to P&ID developments Systems architecture drawings Communication and cable selection, routing, and cable management drawings Field instrumentation selection Control and safety systems, including safety PLC systems Control and instrumentation cabinet design Instrumentation loop drawings and hook-up diagrams Compiling instrument data sheets Writing user requirement specifications Writing C&I design reports and specifications Proven ability to check and approve work of others to the highest technical standards. Up-to-date knowledge of developments in C&I technology, including fieldbus and wireless systems. Demonstrable experience and working knowledge of relevant standards and CDM legislation. Track record of delivering technically robust documentation to the required standard and within schedule.
