  • They are looking to expand to London and add a Macro Strategist as the initial part of this team build. This will require close working with the Chief Investment Officer (CIO) and Portfolio Management team in Hong Kong
  • Several of the funds are market neutral hedge funds investing in Greater China, and my client has future ambitions to add more Cross Asset strategies over time, including FX, Commodities, Equities, Fixed Income and Interest Rates to complement the existing strategies, with an emphasis on understanding the influence on asset classes by Greater China
The Opportunity:
  • Working largely "sensible" US hours (from London) my client is seeking a Macro Strategist to work largely "sensible" US hours from their new London office

The successful candidate will play a key role in generating cross-regional macro insights, producing trade ideas, working closely with portfolio managers on implementation strategies across FX, rates, equities, fixed income and commodities
  • This role is ideal for someone who is not only macro literate but also able to think globally in terms of market transmission mechanisms, policy interdependence, and geopolitical feedback loops
  • Develop macro views on US and European economies with a focus on spillover effects into Asia (e.g., policy transmission, trade linkages, capital flows, FX dynamics)
  • Identify and structure cross-regional trade ideas for discussion and review with the Hong Kong based Investment team
  • Monitor and interpret central bank policy, geopolitical risk, inflation cycles, and fiscal trends across the US, Eurozone, and major Asian economies (China, Japan, Korea, India, etc.).
  • Build and maintain macroeconomic models and scenario analysis tools that capture global feedback loops and contagion risk
  • Produce high-conviction thematic and tactical research notes for internal stakeholders, including trade recommendations with clear risk/reward framing
  • Collaborate with portfolio managers and traders on idea generation, trade structuring, and portfolio construction with a cross-regional overlay
  • Stay current on geopolitical developments (e.g., China-US/EU relations, supply chain bifurcation, capital controls, global sanctions architecture) and assess market implications
Your Experience:
  • 5-10+ years of experience in a macro strategy, research, or portfolio support role at a hedge fund, global bank, or asset manager
  • Demonstrated experience analyzing Western macroeconomic cycles (US/Europe) and understanding their impact on Asian markets
  • Strong background in macroeconomic theory, monetary policy, cross-border capital flows, and FX/rates strategy
  • Robust understanding of the interconnectedness of global economies, with an ability to map policy and market drivers across regions
  • Strong working knowledge of macro instruments e.g. sovereign bonds, FX, futures, options, interest rate derivatives, etc.
  • Data-driven with proficiency in Excel, Bloomberg and potentially coding tools such as Python or R for custom analytics
  • Experience using macroeconomic databases
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; able to write clearly, debate constructively, and present to CIOs or PMs
  • Globally minded, intellectually curious, and commercially driven
  • Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, high-conviction environment
  • Able to challenge consensus views and bring independent thinking to the table
