JOB SUMMARY:
To provide a car driving service for clinical consultations at patient residence and assistance to the East Berkshire Primary Care Out of Hours Services duty doctor.
To take messages and liaise with EBPC OOH Control Centre using all available communication systems.
At all times the post holder must act in a manner consistent with the code of conduct and appearance representing East Berkshire Primary Care Out of Hours Services.
This post requires Criminal Records Bureau clearance.
This job is based at various locations within East Berkshire as required.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
To drive vehicles carefully with every consideration being given to the passengers, the vehicle itself, other road users and to comply with Road Traffic Legislation. This is
not
an emergency service and speed limits and laws in accordance with the Highway Code
must
be followed at all times.
To check the vehicle to ensure that it is roadworthy at the commencement of shift.
To make sure that the vehicle is refuelled and in a state of readiness at all times.
To drive any vehicle owned by East Berkshire Primary Care Out of Hours Services for which you are properly licensed, as required.
To ensure that all journeys are made by the shortest, safest route for the type of vehicle unless otherwise instructed. Under no circumstances are drivers to take vehicles off route or home unless authorised to do so.
If requested, to provide an escort to the duty GP in the patient's home, assisting and supporting as required, including acting as a chaperone.
To set up and prepare Oxygen cylinders equipment and nebulisers to assist the doctor on call, but not to administer to patients.
To ensure all necessary equipment/stationery is available and fit for purpose in the car at the start of the sessions and documented accordingly.
To be responsible for loading and unloading the appropriate medical equipment in the vehicle and ensuring that goods unloaded are either handed over to a responsible person or left in a position safe from inclement weather and vandals.
When a breakdown occurs. In all breakdown situations, to comply with "breakdown procedures".
To carry out all reasonable instructions given by the duty GP, Manager, Supervisor or deputising On Call Manager.
To undertake not to convey unauthorised persons in vehicles owned by EBPCOOH Service.
To wear uniform clothing provided, which should be kept clean and tidy. (Employee to liaise with the supervisor for all uniform requirements).
Administration Duties:
To maintain correctly, all documentation appertaining to the assigned vehicle.
To carry out equipment checks at the commencement of shift and report any deficiencies, replacing and rectifying where necessary and report accordingly.
To ensure that you are conversant with telephone procedures and to answer telephone calls courteously and effectively. To ensure that you become conversant with any form of ITC equipment/systems which may be introduced to improve communications and to operate the equipment to the defined procedures?
To enter all relevant information relating to GP out of Hours services onto a computer as and when required.
When required to cover receptionist duties, admit patients to premises, and liaise with GP Primary Care (PCC) Centre, and update the Adastra Computer system with relevant data at PCC's.
Vehicles Maintenance:
To maintain the security of the vehicles at all times.
Report any damage/defect caused or incurred either whilst you are driving or found by you on inspection of the vehicle and document accordingly using the GoCanvas syatem.
If involved in an accident, whether on a road or not, to report the accident to the Operations Manager/ On Call Manager as soon as possible and to complete and submit a report. If the accident occurred on a road, to comply with Road Traffic Legislation.
To maintain the cleanliness and general upkeep of the vehicles. Vacuum and clean interiors, and wash exterior of assigned car at least weekly.
Perform routine vehicle maintenance such as regulating tyre pressure and checking and adding fuel, oil and water.
Test vehicle equipment such as lights (and replace bulb if competent and proficient), brakes, horns, sensors or windshield wipers, etc to ensure proper operation, reporting any deficiencies via the GoCanvas system or verbally to the on-call manager if service delivery is affected.
General Duties and Responsibilities:
The post holder may be required to work additional hours to cover holidays and sickness.
Maintaining a high standard of attendance, punctuality, personal appearance and hygiene.
To have a good understanding and abide by company policies and procedures.
To comply with all instructions relating to the Health and Safety at Work Act, in relation to the vehicle.
To undertake any training deemed necessary by the East Berkshire Primary Care Out of Hours Services and to complete and submit all statutory and mandatory training courses and any courses specific to this role as discussed with the line manager..
To assist where necessary PCC doctors with the familiarisation of the Primary Care setup.
To secure PCC premises when appropriate.
To take part in response to major incidents.
Chaperone duties for doctors when dealing with difficult patients, or at risk locations.
To attend and contribute at meetings as and when required.
This job description lists the main tasks but is not exhaustive and will be regularly reviewed and updated in discussion with the post holder.

High standards must be maintained in all dealings with managers, doctors, nurses, staff and non EBPC personnel to ensure that a professional image of EBPC is preserved at all times.
An EBPC driver is required to adopt a flexible approach. This may include working outside normal working hours where necessary.
You are required to deal with any real or potential safety hazards. Where doubt exists, the On Call Duty Manager is to be informed.
You are required to maintain a mutually supportive working relationship with all EBPC staff.
EBPC maintains a no smoking policy on premises and grounds.
Pay: 12.25-14.00 per hour
