Paston Surgery serves a population of over 6500 patients in North Walsham and the surrounding area. Our HCAs are an essential part of our Nursing Team and support other clinical staff and practice management.
We are looking for a part-time to full-time HCA (22.5 to 37.5 hours per week) - please detail your preferred working pattern in your application. You will need excellent clinical, communication and service skills to join our friendly Nursing Team. This is a permanent position and subject to a six-month probationary period.
Main duties of the job
Typical duties include phlebotomy, ECGs, BP checks, INR monitoring, dressings, assist with LTC reviews, maintain stock levels, complete health checks, chaperone when required, administrative support, patient data entry etc.
Candidates must be service-minded, driven to help others and make the patient experience as straight forward as possible. Confidence in talking to patients with diverse needs is required and excellent communication skills are required. It is essential to be organised, efficient, adaptable and flexible in a fast-paced working environment.

Job responsibilities
- Health Care Assistant (HCA)
There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:
a. Undertake new patient health checks
b. Undertake NHS Health Checks (40 to 74 years) and assist with LTC/Annual Health reviews
c. Support the practice with health promotion programmes
d. Carry out baseline observations such as urine analysis, pulse oximitery, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, recording findings accurately
e. Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly
f. Undertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required
g. Support the practice nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics
h. Carry out BMI checks as directed
i. Act as a chaperone as required
j. Undertake venepuncture
k. Administer vaccinations
l. Carry out ear irrigation under the supervison of the practice nurse
m. Carry out ECGs as requested
n. Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation
o. Provide support during minor operations as required
p. Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session
q. Ensure fridges are cleaned and temperatures recorded in accordance with guidance
r. Assist in ensuring stocks of medical supplies are maintained in all clinical areas
s. Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the practice policy
t. Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate
u. To undertake all training required by the Practice and maintain a personal development plan
v. Attend all meetings required and participate in shared learning within the practice
