Job summary



Streatham Common Practice is seeking a new team member who can offer our patients outstanding customer service. This is a fixed term contract to provide cover for maternity leave.

The hours is for the role are:

Monday 13:00-18:30

Tuesday 07:45-13:15

Wednesday 13:30-18:30

Thursday 14:00-19:30

Friday 07:45-13:15

Our opening hours are 08:00-18:30 with late closing on Thursdays to 19:30 therefore flexibility is required to enable cover both ends of the day.

Streatham Common Practice is a busy, friendly and supportive 3 partner practice and cares for 11,400 residents.

Duties



Reception

a. Open/closing premises daily.

b. Receive and direct patients, ensuring smooth flow of patients to consulting rooms.

c. Answer the telephone as per practice procedure.

d. Take and record accurate messages and ensure they are passed on correctly.

e. Operate appointment systems for clinical team.

f. Open and distribute mail.

g. Take and record home visit requests. Pass on urgent ones immediately to the doctor.

h. Arrange support services for patients, e.g. interpreters.

i. Give results to patients as per practice procedure.

j. Receive payments over the counter and issue receipts.

k. Chaperoning patients if necessary

Clerical

a. Process new patient registrations and change of patient details.

b. Assist doctors and nurses in administration e.g. phoning hospitals for reports/results.

c. Processing tasks from reception tray and clinical team.

d. Franking outgoing mail and taking to designated post box.

Computer

a. Input patient data.

b. Scanning documentation.

c. Receiving emails and actioning or forwarding as necessary.

d. Process online consultation requests as per practice procedure.

Working as part of the practice team

a. Attend all team meetings.

b. Participate in the maintenance of health and safety matters in accordance with the practice Health & Safety Policy.

c. Help to keep premises clean and tidy between visits from the cleaner.

d. Water internal and external plants.

e. Putting away deliveries of stock.

f. Report any problems that may arise to the practice manager or doctor.

g. Provide some cover when other receptionists are on leave.

Personal Development

a. Participate in own annual appraisal and interim progress reviews.

b. Attend suitable educational/training activities after discussion with the manager.

Experience of working within a health service setting Ability to communicate verbally and in writing Good telephone manner Ability to work as part of a team Ability to use own initiative Computer literate Ability to work additional hours at short notice occasionally Attention to detail Good standard of grammar

Desirable criteria



Experience of reception work Experience of working within general practice Knowledge of EMIS Web system

Qualifications


Essential criteria
Good standard of general education.

Desirable criteria
GCSE English and Maths

AMSPAR Receptionist Certificate NVQ in Customer Care
