The Opportunity
We are looking for graduate Civil & Structural Engineers who are interested in playing a key role in the design and delivery of critical infrastructure on a diverse range of projects, mainly in the Energy, Maritime, Defence and Site Development sectors.
Joining Arup is an excellent opportunity for a Graduate Engineer to gain practical experience across a wide range of projects and sectors with excellent learning opportunities. You will be embedded within our project delivery teams working closely with a range of staff, from recent graduates to experienced engineers and technical specialists, who will provide you with the support and encouragement required to develop your skills and your career.
Arup will also support your professional development. We encourage and support our graduates in working towards becoming professionally qualified and achieving Chartered status with the ICE or IStructE. You will be assigned a Delegated Engineer and Supervising Civil Engineer and provided with the necessary experience and training to deepen your skills and progress with your professional qualifications.

Typical day-to-day tasks are likely to include:

  • Analysis and design of civil engineering infrastructure / civil structures on a range of interesting and challenging projects
  • Appraising options and developing engineering design solutions from initial feasibility through to detailed design stage.
  • Using digital tools and technology to improve efficiency and the way that we work.
  • Preparing design reports, drawings, calculations and technical specifications
  • Collaborating and learning with Arup colleagues in other disciplines, expanding your understanding and experience of what is required to deliver multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects.
  • Meeting and working with clients and other project delivery stakeholders.
  • Undertaking site visits, both at pre-development stage and during construction.
  • Working with contractors to assess buildability and developing design solutions to take account of latest construction technologies.
Is this role right for you?
Do you fit the below criteria:
  • Have, or are on track to achieve, a 2:1 or above in a Masters degree (MEng or MSc) in Civil Engineering or an equivalent related degree.
  • Interested in developing your career in Engineering, with a desire to gain Professional Qualification, Chartered Civil Engineer or equivalent.
  • A good communicator and proactive team player who thrives working individually and in a team environment
  • Have a willingness to develop expertise through on the job and formal learning, internal research opportunities, and collaboration with colleagues.
  • Enthusiastic in embracing new technology and methodologies that advance the profession and improve project outcomes.
  • Have a passion for sustainability and decarbonisation of infrastructure delivery.
  • Enthusiasm for a career in the renewable energy, maritime, defence and/or site development sectors, underpinned by some knowledge and interest in these areas.
