Position Overview



The Graduate Energy Trading Analyst is a member of the Modelling and Analysis team within the Trading and Optimisation function of SEUK. The analyst will be responsible for providing in-depth analysis on the markets that SEUK operates in (power, gas, carbon, NESO ancillary services) and the performance of our assets. This will be used to make decisions on the optimisation of SEUK's generation assets within the GB energy markets.
The successful candidate will have an inquisitive nature, attention to detail, a "right first time" approach, be looking to continually improve, and be a team player.
The company will provide a mentor who will support your development and understanding of both traded markets and analytical techniques.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

Provide and present daily analysis and insights on the wholesale traded energy and ancillary services markets and their drivers, including analysis of competitor pricing and strategies. Work alongside the trading team and play an active part in providing recommendations and challenging the daily trading strategies. Maintain and develop appropriate dashboards and tools for position and performance reporting. Perform ad hoc quantitative analysis and model development to support trading and business decisions. Keep abreast of energy sector regulatory developments. As required due to market activity, support the shift traders with routine tasks and analysis. This may involve some changes to the working hours you are expected to do, or shift work, with appropriate remuneration provided. Potential to move to a shift trading role in the future. Work collaboratively with colleagues in the wider Trading and Optimisation team as well as Finance, Risk, Commercial, Operations, Strategy and others, in order to deliver optimal outcomes for Sembcorp.

Skills and Experience



EssentialDegree qualification and strong academic record in a relevant quantitative discipline, e.g. mathematics, engineering, physics, finance, economics, etc. Enthusiasm to learn about the UK energy markets. Strong analytical skills. Clear communication ability. Demonstratable attention to detail. Ability to problem solve. Right to work in the UK.

DesirableExperience (1-2 years') of the GB power and gas markets, although full on-the-job training will be provided. Experience of model development, quantitative analysis and analysing large datasets. Programming knowledge/skills (e.g. Excel, SQL, Python).

Person SpecificationExcellent analytical, problem solving, communication, influencing and organisation skills as well as strong commercial acumen. Attention to detail and ability to focus on priorities under pressure and within strict time constraints. Ability to act quickly in a fast-paced environment. Excellent team player, and with the ability to work independently to achieve team goals. Willingness to take on different tasks and new activities. As necessary, flexibility to work additional hours to support trading activities.
