Role Overview
We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Graduate Geologist to join our growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent geology graduate to develop their career in hydrogeology and environmental consultancy within a supportive, family-run business environment. You will work alongside experienced professionals on diverse and challenging projects across the water sector, gaining valuable practical experience in groundwater resource assessment, licensing, and sustainable water management.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Support
Assist in hydrogeological assessments and groundwater investigations
Support the preparation of water abstraction licence applications and discharge permit applications for submission to the Environment Agency
Conduct site visits and supervise geological investigations, including trial pits, boreholes, and pump testing
Analyse and interpret hydrogeological data, including borehole logs, pump test data, and water quality results
Support the design and specification of water supply boreholes, soakaways, and ground source heat pump systems
Project Delivery
Contribute to water neutrality assessments and water offsetting projects
Assist in the preparation of technical reports, including hydrogeological assessments, conceptual site models, and compliance reports
Support compliance inspections and monitoring programmes for water abstraction and discharge activities
Liaise with clients, regulatory authorities, and other stakeholders under supervision
Maintain accurate project records and documentation
Professional Development
Develop knowledge of relevant legislation and guidance, including the Water Resources Act, Environmental Permitting Regulations, and Private Water Supply Regulations
Build expertise in groundwater modelling, GIS mapping, and water management techniques
Work towards professional chartership (CGeol) with the Geological Society of London
Participate in continued professional development and training opportunities
Essential Requirements
Education & Qualifications
Bachelor's degree (BSc or MSci) in Geology, Earth Sciences, Environmental Science, or a related discipline (minimum 2:2)
Strong academic background in hydrogeology, hydrology, or geological sciences
Skills & Attributes
Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to sites across the UK
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work
Enthusiasm for environmental consultancy and sustainable water management
Desirable Requirements
Previous fieldwork experience or work placement in environmental consultancy
Membership or working towards membership of the Geological Society
