About the Role:


As a Graduate Mechanical Engineer at DG8, you will be part of a dynamic team working on a wide range of rail vehicle design and engineering projects. You will collaborate closely with Project Engineers, Senior Design Engineers, and Design Engineers to create innovative design solutions that meet customer requirements. Your work will include producing 3D CAD models and detailed 2D installation, assembly, and manufacturing drawings.


The role offers exposure to all aspects of the engineering process, including client interactions, design reviews, and project delivery. You will also undertake on-site vehicle surveys across the UK and internationally, gathering the critical information needed to support your design work.


Key responsibilities:


Create 3D CAD models and detailed 2D drawings for installation, assembly, and manufacturing. Work on a variety of projects to deliver design solutions that meet customer needs. Participate actively in client design reviews and internal design discussions. Conduct design checks on your work and perform updates and revisions (back drafting) as required. Ensure all work complies with DG8's quality systems and engineering procedures. Liaise with suppliers to obtain technical information necessary for the design and manufacturing process. Collaborate with project teams to support the production of comprehensive engineering change packages. Undertake vehicle surveys on-site, both in the UK and overseas, to collect data for design development. Engage fully with the graduate development programme to support your progression toward chartership.

Skills & Qualifications


A UK-SPEC accredited degree in a relevant engineering discipline, preferably Mechanical Engineering, with an expected grade of 2:2 or higher. Strong understanding of engineering drawings and 3D modelling principles. Good knowledge of materials and their properties. Experience with CAD systems, ideally Siemens Solid Edge or SolidWorks. IT literate with good working knowledge of Windows 10 or 11 and Office 365. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively both independently and within a team. Committed to working towards chartered status with a recognised professional institution such as IMechE, IET, or IED.
