Job Description

Rapiscan Systems is an industry leader in detection technology, providing cargo and vehicle inspection systems and services for ports, borders, military, high-threat facilities, and checkpoints to help customers combat terrorism, drug smuggling, illegal immigration, and trade fraud. We offer a broad array of scanning system configurations that leverage low-, medium-, and high-energy X-ray technology\xe2\x80\x94or multiple X-ray technologies\xe2\x80\x94to address each customer\xe2\x80\x99s unique security application requirements. Our commitment to excellence in imaging performance, innovative design, and uncompromising quality ensures our solutions consistently deliver best-in-class imaging, high reliability, and operator satisfaction, to help customers find threats and contraband with ease and confidence.

Overview of Role

Work as part of an expanding Science and Technology team to drive forward the Research and Development Road map for the Business. Working specifically on system-level data capture, analysis, performance tracking and monitoring for a variety of different High-Energy X-ray sources and detector assemblies used in the Non-Intrusive Cargo and Vehicle Inspection industry. Working alongside physicists, software, and electronics engineers to experimentally evaluate the impact of innovative designs and concepts brought to market in a quick-turn around and fast-paced environment, whilst supporting legacy programs and existing schemes of work.

Responsibilities

  • Report to the Senior Director of Science and Technology, with day-to-day management from Principal and Senior team members within the Science group.
  • Own the image performance library for all high- and medium-energy X-ray imaging platforms as the technical expert for X-ray performance across the product portfolio.
  • Explore methods and techniques to reduce the dose footprint of X-ray imaging systems, maximising performance at lower X-ray doses and reducing the cost of shielding with targeted solutions.
  • Understand, monitor and disseminate in a clear and concise manner the relevant standards for X-ray performance and dose exposure in Cargo and Vehicle imaging.
  • Develop tools and techniques to help anticipate system imaging performance for future units, analyse X-ray images on current units and establish trends and correlations for various system-level configurations.
  • Develop and maintain analytical models: excel; Matlab; Geant4, to predict detector response to X-ray illumination and replicate X-ray spectral compositions.
  • Work closely with the software team to develop and deliver image enhancement tools and filters into the inspection suite.
  • Support programs and projects to deliver fully compliant X-ray imaging systems at customer acceptance tests, both on site and at customer facilities world-wide.
  • Take responsibility for the design of X-ray based imaging systems for inspection of cargo and vehicles.
Qualifications

Required
  • Graduate/Postgraduate experience in radiation physics with experimental background.
  • Experience using excel and Matlab for data analysis.
  • The ability to work with others in a multi-disciplinary, fast-paced product development environment.
  • Willingness to support offsite (world wide) programs of work often at short notice.
Desirable
  • Experience using C# for desktop application development.
  • Experience using oscilloscopes to examine real-time pulse shape data from radiation detector units.
  • A degree in physics (post doctorates may apply) is essential. Demonstration of undergraduate courses and laboratories in the field of radiation detection and image processing of a huge benefit.
OSI Systems, Inc. has three operating divisions: (a) Security, providing security and inspection systems, turnkey security screening solutions and related services; (b) Healthcare, providing patient monitoring, diagnostic cardiology and anesthesia systems; and (c) Optoelectronics and Manufacturing, providing specialized electronic components and electronic manufacturing services for original equipment manufacturers with applications in the defense, aerospace, medical and industrial markets, among others.
