Are you a recent graduate considering a career in education, psychology, or therapy? A specialist school in Leeds is looking for a Graduate Teaching Assistant to join their team this September. This is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable, hands-on experience working with children with additional needs in a warm, inclusive environment.

What you'll be doing


As a Graduate Teaching Assistant, you'll support pupils with EHCPs (Education, Health and Care Plans) across the school day. You'll work in the classroom alongside teachers, providing one-to-one and small group support to help pupils stay engaged, build confidence, and make progress both academically and emotionally.

Your role will include:



Supporting pupils with communication, learning and social development Encouraging emotional regulation and positive behaviour Helping deliver tailored learning plans and structured routines Collaborating with teaching staff and therapists to meet individual needs

Who we're looking for


This role is ideal for graduates from any discipline--especially those with backgrounds in:

Psychology, Childhood Studies, Social Work, Health and Social Care or Sport Art, Music or Drama, with an interest in creative or therapeutic approaches Speech and Language Therapy, Education, or Youth Work
You'll bring:

Patience, empathy, and a calm approach A strong interest in working with children with additional needs Great communication skills and a positive, team-focused attitude Openness to learning and taking on feedback

The school


This is a specialist school that supports children with a range of additional needs including communication difficulties, learning challenges and sensory needs. The staff are passionate about inclusive education and work closely with therapists and families to create a nurturing, structured environment for every pupil to thrive.

8.30am to 3.30pm, Monday to Friday

Contract:

Long-term temporary, with the potential to become permanent

Safeguarding children is an integral part of what we do and we have a stringent safer recruitment process. We undertake checks on all the candidates we work with. As such we require a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure for everyone working in Schools. If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available.
