Role Overview
As a Mechanical Pre-Construction Engineer, you'll be an integral part of our Pre-Construction team based in our SE1 office, conveniently located within walking distance from London Bridge Station.
This entry-level role provides support across key stages of project development, from design through to pre-construction, working closely with the Senior Mechanical Pre-Construction Engineer and the wider project team. It's an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career professional to gain hands-on experience in mechanical building services within a structured and supportive environment.
You'll assist in coordinating design and technical information, liaising with suppliers, and contributing to the smooth progression of projects through RIBA Stages 2-6. This role is focused on learning and development, with increasing responsibility as your skills and confidence grow.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
1. Supplier and Subcontractor Coordination
Support the preparation and issue of supplier and subcontractor enquiry packages under the guidance of the QS or senior engineers.
Help review returned quotations for consistency and completeness.
Learn the basics of procurement processes and assist in tracking orders and documentation.
2. Design Support and Review
Assist in reviewing design documentation and flagging areas needing clarification.
Help draft and log Requests for Information (RFIs) under supervision.
Gain exposure to Value Engineering (VE) processes by attending design meetings and workshops.
3. CDP Subcontractor Engagement
Support the monitoring and coordination of CDP subcontractors' pre-construction inputs.
Assist in reviewing documentation and learning how to check against specifications.
4. Working with Design Consultants
Shadow senior engineers in liaising with external design consultants to understand how specifications and timelines are managed.
Assist in tracking deliverables and following up on outstanding design items.
5. BIM and Drawing Management
Learn how Building Information Modelling (BIM) and working drawings are used in project development.
Help manage the flow of updated drawings and maintain drawing registers where needed.
6. Technical Submittals
Assist in preparing technical submittals for review by senior engineers.
Learn how to check compliance with project standards and manufacturer specifications.
7. Collaboration and Meetings
Attend internal and external design meetings, taking notes and observing how decisions are made.
Learn how to effectively communicate and collaborate within multidisciplinary teams.
8. Preconstruction Reporting
Support the development of preconstruction and design reports with input from the mechanical and electrical teams.
Learn how to gather, organise, and present technical information clearly.
9. Change Management
Assist in tracking project changes and variations in collaboration with the QS and engineering team.
Learn how design and scope changes are managed and communicated.
Attend Factory Witness Tests (FATs) when appropriate to observe and understand performance verification procedures.
