Tynemouth Golf Club is one of the leading golf clubs in the north east of England. The golf club is located in the heart of Tynemouth village and serves as a golfing and hospitality facility for both the membership and visitors alike. It is a parkland course which can play very much like a links course due to it's proximity to the stunning north east coastline. The course regularly hosts county events and is renowned for its excellent condition throughout the year. The greenkeeper role is part of the team responsible for preparing and maintaining the course for members and visitors. The role of a Greenkeeper is essential for maintaining the aesthetic and functional quality of our golf course. As a Greenkeeper, you will be responsible for ensuring that the course is well-kept, providing an inviting environment for members and visitors and enhancing the overall landscape. This position requires a combination of practical skills, knowledge of horticulture, and a passion for outdoor work.
Duties
Maintain and enhance the course - greens, teeing areas, fairways, practice ground etc and areas such as flower beds, car park and paths in accordance with the standards set by the Head Greenkeeper, General Manager and Golf Sub Committee
Carry out any course developments agreed by the golf club management and golfing sub committee
Supervise the work of temporary / part time staff that the club may appoint
Carry out routine maintenance and minor repair of machinery.
Conduct regular landscape maintenance to ensure the health and appearance of plants and turf
Operate various pieces of machinery, power tools and hand tools safely and efficiently to perform landscaping tasks.
Build and maintain structures such as fences, pathways, or garden beds as needed
Irrigate the course effectively to promote healthy growth
Monitor plant health and implement pest control measures when necessary
Collaborate with other team members to execute landscaping projects and seasonal tasks
Skills
Have experience of all aspects grounds maintenance relevant to a golf course including mowing, tractor driving, seeding and top-dressing, tining/slitting and watering, bunker raking etc. Ideally this will have been gained at a golf course but may have been gained elsewhere, for example with another sports club or local authority.
Be able to carry out minor machinery maintenance.
Hold a qualification in greenkeeping and the club will support the post holder with ongoing professional development.
Proficiency in landscape maintenance techniques
Strong mechanical knowledge to operate and troubleshoot equipment.
Experience with power tools such as lawn mowers, trimmers, and blowers.
Ability to use hand tools effectively for various gardening tasks.
Competence in building structures or installations that enhance outdoor spaces.
Knowledge of irrigation systems to ensure proper watering
Familiarity with greenkeeping practices that promote sustainable landscaping.
A keen eye for detail to maintain high standards in garden aesthetics.
