We deliver high-quality groundwork, earthworks, drainage, and related site preparation services for public and private clients. We also design, manufacture and erect fully bespoke steel structures.

Job Summary

We are looking for a Groundworker / Labourer to work as part of the site team to carry out a variety of tasks to support groundworks, site preparation, and civil engineering operations. The role ensures safe, efficient, and high-quality execution of groundwork tasks under direction of supervisors and foremen.

Key Responsibilities

Perform general labouring duties on site, including manual handling, digging, shovelling, loading/unloading materials, breaking out surfaces, backfilling, compacting earth, etc. Assist groundworkers, plant operators, and equipment operators in day-to-day tasks. Excavate trenches, footings, and foundations to required lines and levels. Place and compact hardcore, sub-base, and aggregates. Assist with installation of drainage systems (pipes, manholes, soakaways). Assist with laying and bedding concrete, paving, kerbs, and block work. Carry out site clearance: removing vegetation, debris, waste, etc. Maintain and clean tools, equipment, and site areas. Follow all site safety rules, instructions, and risk assessments (e.g. PPE, safe systems of work). Report defects, hazards, or damage immediately to supervisor. Support other trades and tasks where needed (e.g. formwork, shoring, temporary site works). Work to quality control, ensuring finished levels, alignment, and finishes meet specification.

Skills & Qualifications

Previous experience as a groundworker, labourer, or in a similar site role is preferred. Good physical fitness and ability to perform manual tasks, including lifting, bending, kneeling. Ability to follow instructions, work reliably, and within a team. Basic understanding of tools, materials, and site practices. Good awareness of health & safety (COSHH, manual handling, PPE, etc.). Willingness to work outdoors in varying conditions (rain, cold, heat). Basic numeracy and ability to read levels, basic drawings, or site layout would be an advantage. CSCS card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) or equivalent certification is preferred. Valid right to work in the UK

Health & Safety / Compliance
