Job Summary

Groundsman supports tree surgeons (arborists) in all ground-based aspects of tree care operations. This includes preparing the site, managing debris, operating equipment such as chainsaws and wood chippers, and maintaining a safe and efficient work environment. The role is physically demanding and requires a good understanding of arboricultural practices, health and safety protocols, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Responsibilities

Assist climbers and arborists with tree surgery operations from the ground Set up and maintain worksite safety zones in accordance with health and safety regulations Use and maintain chainsaws, wood chippers, and other machinery safely and efficiently Manage and process tree debris, including chipping, logging, and clearing the site Communicate effectively with team members to ensure safe rigging and lowering of limbs Load and unload tools, equipment, and materials at job sites Perform regular equipment checks and basic maintenance Ensure all work is conducted in compliance with environmental and safety standards Maintain a tidy and safe worksite

Requirements

Essential:

Physically fit and able to carry out manual labour in all weather conditions Strong awareness of health and safety practices Ability to work well in a team and follow instructions Full UK driving licence

Desirable:

First Aid certification NPTC or LANTRA qualifications (e.g., CS30/31, CS38, Woodchipper, Brushcutter) Experience in traffic management or utility arboriculture PTS

Working Conditions
