Job Description

The Business Systems & Database Manager is responsible for leading and optimising the organisation's business-critical systems, databases, and platforms to support operational efficiency and strategic growth. This role oversees the full lifecycle of system and database management, including implementation, customisation, integration, upgrades, and maintenance. A key focus is to ensure system reliability, data integrity, and seamless user experience, while also providing guidance, training, and support to staff to maximise the value of these tools across the organisation.

Main Responsibilities



Business Systems Management



Lead all business system software implementations, upgrades, migrations and integrations. Oversee system configuration, customisation and optimisation in line with business needs. Manage vendor relationships, software licences, SLAs and contract negotiations. Identify system improvement opportunities to enhance efficiency, scalability and performance. Create and maintain system documentation, process flows and user guides. Act as the internal subject matter expert for all business-critical applications (e.g. ERP (INFOR), APS, Moorepay (Payroll and HR), etc). Ensure business continuity by managing system backups, disaster recovery plans and failover systems where applicable.

Database Management



Strong SQL Skills - Monitor and optimize the performance of SQL Server databases. This includes identifying slow-running queries, optimizing indexes, and adjusting server configurations to ensure efficient data retrieval and processing. SQL Scripting - Proficiency in writing and optimizing SQL scripts is essential. This allows routine tasks, create complex queries, and manage database objects effectively, enhancing overall database performance and management. SQL Monitoring and Alerting - Continuous monitoring of database health and performance is crucial. Set up and manage monitoring tools and alerts to detect and address issues proactively, ensuring the database operates smoothly and efficiently. Index Management - Proper index management can significantly improve query performance. Should know how to create, maintain, and optimize indexes to ensure efficient data retrieval. ERP Infrastructure - Understanding of ERP infrastructure and SQL Server architecture, including client-server data flows, stored procedures, and business logic integration. ERP Administration - Hands-on expertise in ERP system administration, Business process design, technical support. Manage database integrity, security, access, backups and storage requirements.

Systems Optimisation & Continuous Improvement



Collaborate with the Process Manager and department heads to streamline workflows, automate processes and eliminate manual tasks. Analyse business requirements and identify technology solutions to support growth and change. Lead change management initiatives relating to new system rollouts or major upgrades.

Training & User Support



Develop training materials and deliver end-user training sessions. Provide 1st/2nd line system support in partnership with the IT department.

Additional Duties:



Maintain up-to-date knowledge of emerging technologies and industry best practices. Manage annual systems budget and support business case preparation for new investments. Build strong relationships with key internal stakeholders, providing clear communication around system capabilities and limitations.

Key Skills & Experience:



Proven experience managing business systems Strong SQL skills - SQL server databases, SQL scripting, SQL monitoring.... ERP management - Indexing, infrastructure, administration.... Project management and vendor management skills. Experience with systems integrations, API management, data interfaces, and middleware. Strong data analysis, reporting and dash boarding skills. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. Experience delivering training and supporting change management. Analytical mind-set with strong problem-solving abilities.
