Job Description


Role overview Reporting directly to the Deputy Group Finance Director the Group Finance Manager has responsibility for all financial aspects of the following Hill Group companies and partnerships: Investment Partnerships Hill Investment Partnerships work with local authorities and housing associations to identify opportunities and redevelop land for much needed local housing and revenue generating commercial uses. Hill Group has a 50% interest in:

  • Cambridge Investment Partnership
  • South Cambridgeshire Investment Partnership
  • Rushmoor Development Partnership
  • Gravesham Community Investment Partnership
  • Harlow Regeneration Partnership
  • Sovereign Hill Partnership
Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) Companies Hill Group is a 50% shareholder in:
  • Volumetric Ltd - a manufacturer of modular solutions, including homes, bathroom and utility pods.
  • Fusion Steel Framing Ltd - a designer, manufacturer, and installer of structural light steel framing.
In addition to the above entities the Group Finance Manager will have responsibility for the purchase, subcontract and sales ledgers and treasury function. Role Scope
  • Investment Partnership / MMC management accounts - The Group Finance Manager will be responsible for delivering a comprehensive set of monthly management accounts to the Deputy Group Finance Director and Group Finance Director. These management accounts will include narrative setting out key variances to the annual budget, work in progress summaries, contract cash lock up, contract margins, and members funding balances.
  • Investment Partnership / MMC business plans and budgets - The Group Finance Manager will be responsible for maintaining the Investment Partnership and MMC business plan models which will be updated annually becoming a five-year rolling set of figures suitable for use as annual budgets. The annual budget setting process will require the Group Finance Manager to liaise with all relevant function/departmental Directors and Heads, challenging and supporting in the preparation of annual overhead budgets.
  • Investment Partnership development appraisals - The Group Finance Manager will be responsible for overseeing the development appraisals for all live schemes, ensuring actual costs and revenues are updated on a real-time basis.
  • Cash flow reporting - As a residential development led business, it is critical that the Group has a robust cash flow reporting process in place. The Group Finance Manager will work with the Group Financial Controller to enhance the existing reporting processes to provide short-term weekly, monthly, quarterly, annually and longer-term cash flow forecasts suitable for the Group Executive to monitor forecast cash balances and availability of funds for future investment.
  • Bank accounts and reconciliations - To oversee the Treasury Assistant ensuring the following is performed: daily bank reconciliations, posting of payments and receipts, opening and closing of bank accounts including setting up of internet banking and responding to bank queries on KYC information.
  • Ledger teams - The Group Finance Manager will be responsible for the purchase, subcontract and sales ledger teams ensuring that invoices are posted and payments are made in a timely manner. The services provided internally with respect to the sales ledger will involve establishing a more robust credit control function as well as providing services to the Sales Team in progressing sales of private homes to customers.
  • Other ad hoc responsibilities - including process improvements and various financial analyses for the Investment Partnerships and MMC businesses.
Skills, Experience and Attributes
  • Professionally Qualified Accountant from a recognised Institute with substantial PQE, preferably in industry
  • Real estate development experience essential with residential development preferred.
  • Experience of implementing new processes / procedures with a methodical approach to working practices.
  • Demonstrable strong financial management and commercial experience.
  • Ability to formulate financial plans (long term and tactical) and ensure full engagement.
  • Ability to influence change and build/maintain strong financial management within the business.
  • Must be capable of maintaining a high level of energy and team spirit that enhances goal attainment.
  • An enthusiastic leader and strong team player, with the ability to operate and excel in a changing and rapidly growing environment.
  • Well-developed analytical, oral and presentation/communication skills.
  • A pragmatic approach to problem solving.
  • Able to get buy-in from other departments and ability to influence and persuade others.
  • Able to work under pressure and with a high degree of accuracy.
  • A self-starter capable of creating and maintaining momentum on projects.
