Location

: Must be able to travel and cover inspections at hotels in Kent, Surry and West Sussex (5 locations). Car driver and owner essential.

Salary

: 35 per hour. Permanent or freelance considered (22,750 per annum)


THE JOB





Alexander Hotels are a collection of five luxury hotels, in the 4 5-star market, based in the South of England. We are looking to recruit for a new role as a Food Safety Officer, reporting to our Operations Director, to support our Executive Chefs and General Managers to ensure food safety and compliance.



The initial brief will be to produce an agreed inspection report, with priority areas, and present to the Ops Director for approval. Agree an inspection calendar to ensure when onsite you have access to all areas and personnel needed. Then to complete initial inspections to check compliance reporting back findings. An initial action plan and priority list can then be compiled. Inspections should cover all food and beverage preparation and service areas.



To be successful you will need to be experienced, qualified and have good catering/hotel experience to ensure your ability to guide and direct senior heads of department and gain their commitment to your recommendations. Your interactions will be with General Managers / Executive Chefs and the Operations Director.


MAIN DUTIES




Conducting Routine Inspections:




Complete 5 site inspections over a 2-week period to ensure they comply and follow current Food Safety Regulations and Standards. Spending 5 hrs at our 2 larger hotels and 2-3 hours at our 2 smaller hotels.

Producing Reports Following Inspections;




Ensuring timely reports are completed of all inspections and these are submitted to the Ops Director for review. Reports must highlight clearly any violations or areas for improvement. Reporting immediately any issues of serious concern without delay.

Implement Corrective Actions;




When violations are found, ensure corrective action is clearly communicated to address issues raised. Agree timescales for corrective action to be taken. Monitor to ensure achieved and report back.

Provide Guidance/Records;




Offer advice and guidance on best practise to correct or improve any failings highlighted during the inspections. Assist with investigating any complaints or reports of foodborne illnesses with local Chefs and Managers. Maintain and accurate record of all inspections / recommendations made / investigations and follow ups. Ensure you stay up to date on any changes to relevant regulations and ensure these changes are clearly communicated in a timely manner, ensuring documentation is updated.

REQUIREMENTS




Ideally a candidate who can demonstrate local authority inspection experience. You will need a good knowledge of food safety standards within a hotel and catering environment. Have a successful record of intervention work. Knowledge and practical skills to be a credible candidate within our organisation. Degree or CIEH equivalent qualification + practical experience. Be mobile across and able to travel to the 5 sites.
