(40 p/h for someone who can hit the ground running teaching in primary schools). For this role we are looking for energetic, inspiring and organised teachers who can motivate and nurture guitar bands of primary students. The successful applicants will teach high quality 30 minute guitar lessons to groups of 8 primary school children at a time. You will be teaching melodies, chords, technique, guitar tab and make use of interactive guitar software games throughout the academic year. You will also run our Battle of the Bands competition in your schools, as well as practicing for and delivering a student Flash Performance and a Whole School Gig every year. You will receive support and training with all of this. We are looking for applicants who relate well to young children, genuinely care about their progress and those who are able to build strong relationships with them. Candidates who are able to demonstrate an ability to scaffold teaching concepts in a step by step approach while using a huge variety of teaching strategies to keep lessons exciting and fresh will be sought after.
You will use a tried and tested model that has taught 1000s of children over the past 10 years. Lessons are taught within school at lunchtimes, afternoons and after school. These lessons will be taught predominantly in primary schools in the Leeds area.
Your pay in schools will be 35 per hour taught, rising in increments of 2.50 to 40. ( Eg 5 half an hour lessons on an afternoon earns 87.50 to 120 at these pay rates). Pay can go beyond this as your skills and experience improve. Your timetable can be built to suit your availability, offering you the possibility to teach 10 lessons a week up to as many as 30 for excellent teachers. A typical working day involves reaching a school by 11:40am, setting up, teaching, and leaving after a set of between 4 and 7 lessons. You will likely teach in one school per day, although sometimes this becomes two. Out of school evening, weekend or Zoom lessons, as well as holiday workshops can offer further job growth.
You will receive a supply of students, in school training, our Get Into Guitar curriculum and resources, as well as all the equipment needed (acoustic and electric guitars, laptop, printer, branded work clothing, resource trolley and much more).
Candidates will have a decent grasp of playing the guitar, and must be willing to acquire grade 4 as a minimum if deemed necessary. Most important however is your ability to work with children and form genuine positive relationships with them. You will have previous experience working with the primary age group along with excellent communication skills in spoken and written English, as well as being IT literate. Ultimately we are looking for an excellent, vibrant candidate who can inspire children to learn guitar and keep them coming back for more. We offer more than guitar lessons. We aim to build children's confidence, sense of belonging, aspirations and happiness. Hence you will be a mentor and role model for the children in your care.
For the job you will require a car, a DBS certificate and your own Public Liability Insurance as you will be teaching in primary schools. You will be working under self employed status with Get Into Guitar as your agent. This is something we can help you with if you are new to this way of working. Our role is due to start in April/May 2025 and we will expand your schools as you gain experience and deliver excellent teaching. For your first half term you will trained and supported by our lead teacher. We would expect you to come and shadow one of our teachers in the run up to this if you are successful.
