About the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Payroll Manager to lead and manage all payroll activity across the MAB Group.


You'll play a pivotal role in ensuring the accurate and timely processing of payroll (circa 1,000 employees) while maintaining full compliance with UK legislation, HMRC regulations and pension obligations. You'll also provide strategic and day-to-day leadership to the payroll team, driving operational excellence and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Manage end-to-end payroll processing across all group entities, ensuring accuracy, compliance and timeliness Lead, develop, and support payroll team through coaching, performance feedback and training Ensure full compliance with HMRC, pension schemes and all relevant UK employment legislation Oversee payroll-related audits, reconciliations and reporting requirements Collaborate with the People and Culture Team to ensure alignment of HR and payroll data Maintain and enhance payroll systems, identifying opportunities for process improvement and system upgrades Handle complex payroll queries, resolving issues efficiently and diplomatically Prepare and file year-end submissions, including P60s, P11Ds and payroll tax filings Stay current with changes in legislation and best practices, keeping the organisation informed and compliant

About You

Significant payroll management experience, ideally within a multi-entity group or complex organisational structure Strong understanding of UK payroll legislation and statutory reporting requirements Proficiency in payroll systems and software (e.g., Sage, Workday, ADP) Excellent leadership and communication skills with the ability to motivate and manage a team Meticulous attention to detail and a structured, process-driven mindset Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism Knowledge of IRIS/IRIS Cascade is desirable
