Job Description

Join our friendly, family-run sporting goods outlet in Stockport, where we pride ourselves on delivering top-notch service to our customers.

With a busy workload and a growing customer base, we are looking for a skilled and experienced Gunsmith to join our dedicated team.

As our Gunsmith, you will play a pivotal role in our workshop, handling a wide variety of firearms, including but not limited to shotguns, rifles, and air rifles. Your primary responsibilities will encompass the repair, maintenance, modification, and customization of firearms, ensuring they are safe, functional, and meet customer expectations.

A history of Gunsmithing is preferred however an experienced engineer with knowledge of pneumatics and intricate mechanisms may be considered.

Key Responsibilities:



Repair & Maintenance:

Inspect, diagnose, and repair all types of firearms, identifying and resolving mechanical and structural issues.

Modification & Customization:

Perform modifications to enhance firearm performance, aesthetics, or functionality in line with customer specifications.

Servicing & Rebuilding:

Conduct thorough servicing, including cleaning, lubrication, and parts replacement, as well as complete firearm rebuilds when required.

Fabrication:

Utilize machine tools (lathes, millers, drill presses) to fabricate, modify, or repair components with the highest precision. Training will be provided where necessary.

Testing & Safety:

Test firearms to ensure they meet safety standards, addressing potential risks to prevent failures.

Record Keeping:

Maintain accurate records of all services performed, parts used, and modifications made.

Essential:



Technical Skills:

Proficiency in the use of hand tools, precision instruments, and machine tools such as lathes, milling machines and other specialised gunsmithing equipment.

Experience:

Working with machine tools such as lathes, millers and drill presses to achieve the highest quality results.

Knowledge:

Comprehensive understanding of firearms mechanics, ballistics, safety protocols and precision measurement tools for ensuring accuracy in repairs and tuning.

Attention to Detail:

Exceptional attention to detail, ensuring all work meets the highest quality and safety standards.

Communication Skills:

Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical issues and solutions clearly to customers and colleagues.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to handle and work with small parts and tools, including the ability to lift and move equipment as needed.

Team Player:

Ability to collaborate with team members in a busy workshop environment including keeping colleagues and customers up to date and liaising with suppliers.

Desirable:



Experience:

Significant hands-on experience as a Gunsmith, particularly with shotguns and rifles.

Knowledge:

In-depth knowledge of firearm systems, including shotguns, rifles, and air rifles, along with their components and modifications. Familiarity with various brands, models, and techniques for performance.

Certifications:

Any certification or training for gun safety would be advantageous.
