The Gymnastics Coach is responsible for planning, leading, and delivering safe, engaging, and effective gymnastics instruction to athletes of various ages and skill levels. This role focuses on developing athletes' technical abilities, physical conditioning, confidence, discipline, and enjoyment of the sport while maintaining a positive and supportive training environment.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Skill Development
Teach gymnastics skills, progressions, and techniques appropriate to class or team level.
Create structured lesson plans and training programmes.
Demonstrate correct form and spotting techniques to ensure athlete safety.
Assess athlete performance and provide constructive feedback.
Safety & Risk Management
Maintain a safe training environment by enforcing gym rules and safety guidelines.
Regularly inspect equipment and report maintenance needs.
Ensure spotting and progressions follow best safety practices.
Athlete Development & Motivation
Promote athlete confidence, discipline, and positive sportsmanship.
Set achievable goals and track athlete progress.
Encourage physical conditioning, flexibility, and strength development.
Communication & Collaboration
Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, and staff.
Work with other coaches on training plans, competitions, and gym events.
Provide updates on athlete progress and programme activities.
Competitions & Events
Prepare competitive athletes for competitions, including routines, conditioning, and mental preparation.
Attend competitions and assist with warm-ups, judging requirements, and routine adjustments.
Administrative Duties
Maintain attendance records and progress notes.
Assist with class placements, scheduling, and programme evaluations.
Support gym events, showcases, and holiday camps as required.
Qualifications
Previous experience coaching gymnastics or participating as a gymnast.
Strong knowledge of gymnastics progressions, spotting techniques, and training methods.
First Aid/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
British Gymnastics coaching or similar qualification or Safeguarding training
Strong communication and leadership skills.
Ability to motivate and engage athletes positively.
