: Hair & Beauty Tutor

We are seeking a positive and supportive person to join us in our Basildon centre delivering Hair & Beauty BTEC sessions to small groups of students of mixed ability, predominantly in years 9 - 11. This is in a purpose made salon within our provision setting. The students we work with have a range of needs that mainstream school hasn't been a good fit for. Ideally you will have some practical skills gained in a working environment to engage our young people in projects, although self-taught experience is fine.

You will be given the support to make the space and subject your own, we want your passion to engage and inspire the learners.

You will be required to work core hours of 08:45 to 15:30 Term Time Only, with hours outside of these times flexible to suit.

The additional courses we currently offer are all at level 1 and include, Heath & Social care, Home Cooking skills, Childcare, and Vocational Studies, of which you may also deliver on occasion.

Previous experience of BTEC delivery is preferable but not compulsory, training and support will be given while in post.

We are a small organisation with minimal internal bureaucracy, our focus is always on delivering the best we can for our students, helping them overcome any personal barriers, and encouraging them to find their path and flourish.

Although this is a classroom based role, due to the typical backgrounds of our students it will be a 70% pastoral, 30% teaching role. Empathetic understanding of the students situations is key.

Qualifications and experience in either youth work and/or practical based teaching is preferred, but also would suit someone with a passion to help young people overcome issues and find their way into young adult life while also looking to develop their own qualifications into teaching/youth work as the required qualifications can be gained while in post.

Salary range - 13+ p/h dependent on experience.

The successful candidate will have/develop:

Be empathetic to reasons of disengagement and educational needs. Knowledge of strategies and tactics to re-engage young people. Ideally have experience working in a Hair & Beauty setting. Support with and develop personalised activities for young people to help them return to education. Look for creative ways in which to support every child with their personalised learning/reintegration programmes. Communicate with parents/carers and other professionals, providing daily contact logs and detailed reports when needed. Be able to contribute to our positive, safe, caring and supportive environments Be competent in the basic use of Microsoft Word, Excel and email. Have good time management and be able to effectively plan sessions for the student day.
The role requires all candidates to speak fluent English. Our service is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. The appointment will be subject to an enhanced DBS check and full safer recruitment checks with references.

The role is Term Time Only.
