Devonport House

is a residential life house accommodating 60 homeless individuals.


The Salvation Army forms part of the Christian church and boasts an extensive social remit, providing a range of social and community services, including services for children and the elderly, those trapped in modern-day slavery, homeless people, individuals struggling with addiction, and people seeking employment.

Key Responsibilities:

Carrying out short term reactive repairs and maintenance, internally and externally. Basic Carpentry/Joinery, Manual Handling, Painting and Decorating. To assist plumbers, electricians and other outside contractors and ensure that work is completed to a satisfactory standard. On a day-to-day basis, carry out work as necessary in accordance with health and hygiene regulations. Keeping the appearance of the centre to a high standard. Undertake training as deemed necessary. Work as part of the staff team within the centre to ensure the overall aims of the agency are achieved. Conduct building checks and identify any maintenance issues.

The successful candidate(s) will be able to demonstrate:

Physically fit and in good health Flexibility and strong work ethic Practical experience in a similar role Excellent communication skills Trade knowledge Computer knowledge - Email and Word Ability to work on own initiative without close supervision Ability to prioritise workload
