THE ROLE:
We are seeking a reliable, skilled, and safety-conscious Handyperson to join our supported accommodation services for young people aged 16-18. You will be responsible for keeping our homes well-maintained, safe, and welcoming, carrying out a variety of practical jobs and small repairs.
PERSONAL SPECIFICATION:
Essential:
Proven experience in property maintenance, handyman, or similar role
Own van/transport and basic tool kit (larger equipment provided)
Knowledge of safe working practices and health & safety awareness
DBS check (or willingness to complete one)
Good understanding of health & safety and safe working practices
Ability to work independently across multiple sites
Good problem-solving skills and initiative
Reliable, trustworthy, and professional
Desirable:
Experience in supported accommodation, care, or residential housing
Knowledge of compliance checks (gas, electrical, fire safety)
Basic training/certifications in health & safety or maintenance
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Day-to-day property repairs and maintenance
Mowing lawns, gardening, and outdoor upkeep
Cleaning gutters, drainpipes, and outdoor areas
Painting and decorating (interior and exterior)
Carpet cleaning and minor flooring repairs
Jet washing paths, patios, and exterior areas
Changing lightbulbs, fuses, and minor electrical repairs (non-qualified)
Fitting shelves, cupboards, and small household fixtures
Basic plumbing (unblocking sinks, fixing small leaks)
Mould alert-ensuring good ventilation in the homes
Supporting compliance requirements (gas safety checks, electrical checks, fire safety inspections) - liaising with contractors where necessary
Ensuring safe working practices and reporting any hazards
Maintaining tools and equipment appropriately

They must report to their direct line manager every accident no matter how minor and any incident, which could result in injury or damage to plant and equipment and co-operate in the investigation of accidents with the object of preventing a reoccurrence.
