Somerset State Basketball Club is part of the Evolve Sports Coaching family - a fast-growing grassroots sports provider across Somerset. We're building pathways for young players to access high-quality basketball coaching and competition, and we're looking for a motivated coach to take ownership of our Weston-super-Mare Coaching Centre.

The Role

We are seeking a Venue Head Coach to run, manage and grow our Weston-super-Mare Basketball Centre. This is not just a coaching role -- it's an opportunity to lead your own venue under the Somerset State and EVOLVE Sports Coaching banner, with a revenue-share model that rewards your success.

Starting with three hours on Tuesdays (6pm-9pm), you'll deliver sessions across age groups from U8 through to U16, with the scope to add more hours, a wider range of sessions, and even holiday camps -- the more successful and driven you are, the more the role can grow.

As Venue Head Coach, you'll:

Deliver sessions in line with the Somerset State Basketball curriculum. Take ownership for growing player numbers at the centre (school outreach, community links, local marketing). Act as the face of Somerset State at the venue, liaising with parents and players. Build and manage a small coaching team at your venue, ensuring at least two staff members per session for quality and safeguarding. Work closely with our Head of Basketball through monthly feedback meetings. Attend quarterly numbers and growth meetings with the Head of Basketball and Owner. Ensure sessions are delivered to Somerset State standards: structured, engaging, inclusive.

Pathway for Future Employment

As your centre grows, you'll have the scope to bring in other coaches to work under you -- creating a real team environment. Somerset State will support you in recruiting, employing and training these coaches, but you will take the lead on making sure your venue has the right people to deliver high-quality basketball every week.

Pay & Revenue Share Model

This role gives you ownership-style responsibility with shared rewards:

Guaranteed 17.50 per hour for session delivery (security, even if numbers are low). Venue costs covered by Somerset State (Evolve Sports Coaching). Once venue + guarantee are covered, remaining session income is split: 70% retained by Somerset State (for reinvestment and sustainability). 30% goes directly to you as the Venue Head Coach.
At full capacity (30 players), this model can see you earning 50-71+ per session, well above standard coaching rates.

What We're Looking For

Basketball England Level 2 Coach (or working towards). DBS check (or willing to obtain). Safeguarding Children qualification (or willing to obtain). Emergency First Aid qualification (or willing to obtain). A passion for grassroots basketball and youth development. Confidence in promoting and growing sessions in schools and the community. Reliability, organisation, and the ability to manage a venue independently.
