Surbiton High School is seeking an experienced and proactive Head Caretaker to lead our dedicated caretaking team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with strong leadership skills and a hands-on approach to facilities management

About the Role



As Head Caretaker, you will:

Lead and manage the caretaking team, ensuring high standards of performance and morale.


Oversee the daily operations and security of all school buildings and grounds.


Coordinate site checks, fire safety procedures, and health & safety compliance.


Manage contractors, lettings, and caretaking schedules.


Deputise for the Head of Facilities when required.


Will act as a keyholder, responsible for emergency callouts and ensuring site security outside of normal operating hours


You'll be instrumental in ensuring our school operates smoothly and safely, supporting both day-to-day activities and special events.

About You



We're looking for someone who is:

Experienced in caretaking, facilities management, or building maintenance.


Skilled in managing people and leading by example.


Knowledgeable about health & safety regulations and building maintenance.


Highly organised, with excellent communication skills.


Flexible, reliable, and committed to delivering exceptional service.


Experienced in planning and coordinating event logistics

Essential:



Proven leadership experience.


Practical maintenance skills.


Clean UK driving licence (D1 desirable)

Desirable:



GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths.


First Aid certification (training can be provided).
